Re: LM 6 via Update?

Personally, I've decided to just stick with clean installs. Makes things simpler, and less chance of headaches later down the road.

Re: Partial Web Access

Sorry for the delayed reply. Life has been pretty stressful as of late. Anyhow, I cant manage to find the official DNS. But personally I don't think that's the problem as I use OpenDNS with the same WiFi device on the same computer in XP without a hinderance. I don't have a network-wide proxy setup ...

Re: Rebrand Linux Mint?

I chose with a different logo because personally, though I like the way the L and M are stylized in the current logo (the text and catchphrase are great as it is) I never liked the leaf much. The suggested rebrand is just too wiry for my taste. There is a fine line between elegance/grace and insubst...

Re: Will this run Mint XFCE?

I always wondered why there was some HDD activity each time I used a LiveCD- now I know for sure.

Thank you.

Fast and Slow Speeds [REOPENED- COME BACK!]

How come when I visit speedtest.net (or download a video from Amazon Video On Demand) I get speeds at ~2500kbs but for everything else I get 350-250kbs?? Is my ISP choking me? Can I learn to breath?

Re: from daryna to felicia

Yea, but when you do that ensure you do it on removable media (ex- DVDs or External HDD) because a format is almost required- and formatting your precious data = bad usually.

Re: Partial Web Access

I have tried this (I was planning on going OpenDNS anyway- love their service) but no such luck. I still can't connect to many websites, but I can ping them. And if I enter a site (say linuxmint.com) as the URL the status bar just sits there at "Waiting for linuxmint.com..."

What gives!?

Re: External Wifi > Ethernet - Why Not?

WiFi pretty much works now, and I've migrated away from most apps.

So, not so much anymore. Thanks for caring.

Partial Web Access

I have just installed Felicia, and was extremely excited when offered to automatically install my WiFi card. Unfortunately, I don't think it worked. Here's my situation: When on the LiveCD, I simply use what I have been using which is an external WiFi to ethernet bridge. I can get to any website I w...

TV Tuner?

Hello everyone,
I have been looking for a PCI/USB (whatever is easiest to configure) NTSC TV tuner, but have been having trouble finding a Linux compatible model. (I can find many chipsets that are supposed to work, but no golden ticket with a link to a store.)

Any advice?

Okay, so it works x 2.

So why haven't people focused on making this cheap?

Re: Suggestion: Change Menu Name

Well, the LM6 release candidate has "Menu" instead of "Felicia", so I think the decision has been made.

Re: External Wifi > Ethernet - Why Not?

I have a Netgear wireless print server with is basically a wifi-> 2USB and 4Ethernet bridge. It 'requires' windows drivers, but that's just to set up printers. Everything else is administered via web browser- regardless of the OS. So that's what I use since I could never get my wifi card to work. It...

Re: LM 6 via Update?

I understand that it would be redundant, but it wouldn't be pointless- I want to help by testing. Anyway, after the final is released can't you update your release candidate?

LM 6 via Update?

Is it possible to upgrade to Felicia RC1 in Elyssa without a clean reinstall? I just really don't feel like reinstalling all my applications... Also, is it possible to point folders in the home directory to a different partition, as if you were redirecting the "My Documents" folder in XP to a separa...

External Wifi > Ethernet - Why Not?

There are 2 reasons I don't use linux full time: Compatibility with most mainstream applications WiFi Looking at wifi, I just found this on amazon. I know it's not the cheapest solution in the world, but I like the idea of an external device that converts your wifi signal to ethernet to keep linux h...

Mint in Science Fair Project: Procedures for ad hoc Wifi

Hello all! I am planning on doing a science fair experiment testing to see if the type of data transmitted over a wifi network (video, audio, html etc) affects the ease of which the network can be compromised. To do this, I am planning on using Linux Mint as my OS for the everyday ad-hoc wifi networ...

MP3 Without Compression?

I have recently purchased a copy of the PowerNap CD and, though I haven't compared the difference, the disc says you should not encode your copy of the CD into MP3 format as the compression will remove much of the wavelengths in the file which make it effective. (This is a white noise track designed...
