Re: Asus WL-138G V2 Wireless Card Configuration

Okay, it didn't really take this long to try the link you gave me, it's just that I have been so overwhelmingly busy lately "free time" is worth it's weight in gold. Anyway, I tried the Ubuntu tutorial and keep getting the same problem. It won't "acquire" an address with my router- though it does it...

Re: [Topic Modified] Windows XP Recovery from Gparted NTFS Fail

Wow I can't believe how far behind I am. I have not forgotten you, but school just started a few weeks ago and it's been overwhelming to say the least. Anyway, I got everything running again as our plan worked. (LM wireless internet is being a pain, but I am not concerned about that right now.) So m...

What is a Subnet Mask?

I have recently acquired a FreeNAS box for my backups but am puzzled by the fields asking for a subnet mask- I know it's 255.255.255.0/24 - but what does that mean and what does it have to do with me accessing my data?

Asus WL-138G V2 Wireless Card Configuration

I bought this card for $25 off Amazon in hopes of dealing with a newer card with more support as I tried to configure it in Mint- and though it's newer, and has more documentation, I still cant get it to work. sudo /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintWifi/mintWifi.py (MintWifi) gives me the following: ian@Electr...

Re: [Topic Modified] Windows XP Recovery from Gparted NTFS Fail

Okay, well here goes.

Plan: Delete windows partition. (I have the backup if I forgot to migrate anything to my backup server.)
Size Windows Partition (sda1) 15GB
Size Swap: Least possible size (I think it's 512MB)
Size Linux Mint: 12GB
Size Data Partition: 121 GB NTFS

Sound good?

Re: Cleaning utility

I like the idea of a homebrew utility better than porting something to mint. (And I am a Fred Fan, :D )

As for interface, I am designing what I think would be a good template as you read this.

Re: Suggestion: Change Menu Name

I am going to have to agree, it helps more than it hurts. Maybe the change would be required if, say, we decided to move the default bar to the top of the screen instead of the bottom. Then the ignorant windows user would be thrown off and be looking for a menu in the bottom. Maybe then... but other...

Re: [Topic Modified] Windows XP Recovery from Gparted NTFS Fail

Well at least I have access to those programs with keys. I was planning on making a list anyway, for when I screw up again. Here is my thinking- my current partition only contains 55GiB out of the 149GiB drive- I am planning on shrinking the current partition and installing windows on a second one i...

Windows XP Acting Weird

Okay, now that I have used it for a while I have a sinking feeling that I either have very bad file corruption, or lots of viruses. Weird problems that weren't present when the incident happened: -desktop.ini x2 opened at startup (remedied one) -thumbs.db and desktop.ini files appearing everywhere. ...

Re: [Topic Modified] Windows XP Recovery from Gparted NTFS Fail

Okay, now we are even. I was smart enough to forget the "chmod 755 /usr/bin/puprestore" step. That's what gave me the error before.

Sorry.

Re: [Topic Modified] Windows XP Recovery from Gparted NTFS Fail

Trust me, I have been behind more shortcuts gone awry than I care to admit. It's no problem for me, and if anything it could be said that you are wasting your time trying to help me. But you don't look at it that way and for that I am very grateful. As for remedying the situation, I believe I alread...

You are so full of knowledge- why don't you have a blog!? I am starting the restore now. -Ian EDIT: ERROR! I think it has to do with the fact that we are now loading from the hard drive. If I go to MUT from the desktop, I only had to mount sda (the problem hard drive) as the other was already mounte...

Re: [Topic Modified] Windows XP Recovery from Gparted NTFS Fail

I booted the GParted LiveCD and selected the drive and hit new like I normally do, but an unfamiliar prompt came up. It contained warnings about proceeding will erase all data on drive as well as information about the "partition table", the default being msdos. Underneath that had an "Advanced >" Me...
