Re: [Topic Modified] Windows XP Recovery from Gparted NTFS Fail

First of all, I want to thank you again. You deserve it. :D Next, let me thank you for letting me republish your work. It will NEVER be sold with my consent or knowledge, but more than that I can't really promise. Is there a specific license you want me to post it under? Back to the drive: You said ...

Re: [Topic Modified] Windows XP Recovery from Gparted NTFS Fail

I only messed up once. (I bumbed the USB drive causing it to become disconnected for just a moment, terminating the backup. I reformatted and started from stratch, so no worries.) The only thing at the bottom of the terminal was sent 90879712083 bytes received 2757986 bytes 16525587.79 bytes/sec tot...

Re: [Topic Modified] Windows XP Recovery from Gparted NTFS Fail

Okay, good. I am going to blank it anyway, as it has some old disk images on it that I have been meaning to transfer to the server anyhow. So that will be an all night operation. But if you wait a min I will have some gparted info for you.

Re: [Topic Modified] Windows XP Recovery from Gparted NTFS Fail

Darn, I didn't catch you before you logged out... Anyway, I was going to ask if it was okay that the drive was an external USB drive and if it had to be blank or not. (Blanking anyway.) -Ian EDIT 1 : Okay, I have downloaded and burned all of the tools linked to above, using the latest version as of ...

Why Can't You Host Your Own Domain Names?

Why am I paying the fee for 1&1 to host my domain names when I have a perfectly fine machine that I am using as a backup server sitting right beside me? I know the domain name system is powered by the world's DNS servers... so why not host your own and enable yourself to host an unlimited number!?? ...

Re: Buying (NAS) Backup/File Sharing System - Recommendations?

It's so funny that you posted that right on the day I first discovered g4u. If I can get it to work with all my wifi cards and my new FreeNAS server, my problems shall be solved! (I can't believe I am actually saying this!)

Re: Does Linux Mint Support the RSYNC Protocol

The glass is half full. Well at least 1/3rd. Sorry I didn't respond right away. I was busy getting my Amateur Radio Technician License. (I passed, yay!) I am willing! Please post what I need to do and I will do it probably tomorrow. I have a boating party that I have to go to, otherwise I would be d...

Super GRUB Disk

Okay, I just tried the super GRUB disk and could get it to restore the default windows bootloader (There currently aren't any ext3 partitions on the drive for a menu.list to reside on) But I still only got the blinking underscore. This makes me think that it's NOT the MBR but say NTLDR or something ...

Re: Does Linux Mint Support the RSYNC Protocol

I have already tried doing a FIXMBR from the XP cd, as well as restoring/booting via Super GRUB in the past. Yes, the machine I am writing from is the problem machine, but I have been running liveCD for 2 months. I have 2 CD burners so I can still burn CDs. It is late here, but I will try the latest...

Re: Does Linux Mint Support the RSYNC Protocol

The idea behind a bit by bit backup is that you simply overwrite everything if you want to recover. No butts, no cuts, no coconuts. This way it also preserves the MBR and there isn't a way to 'forget' to back something up. I am just doing it for simplicity. I am thinking of making a backup via ether...

Re: Does Linux Mint Support the RSYNC Protocol

Okay, I have just discovered that RSYNC wont work for me. RSYNC works in the partitions- I need something that will image the disk bit for bit. I found a really promising project called g4u, but was sorely disappointed when I discovered my wifi wasn't supported. I am starting to hate wifi with all m...

Re: Does Linux Mint Support the RSYNC Protocol

Fred, I am extremely pleased that you are willing to do this for me. I will keep looking, no rush. :D

In the mean time, would anybody mind doing a quick post of what they use and maybe I can branch off from there to find a solution?

Mint has done it again.
