Re: Kids Can't Use Computers... And This Is Why It Should Wo

It totally amazes me how someone can own something and not at least know the basic "ins" and "outs" of how and why it works. Ever notice that the occasional person brags about how bad they are with cars/computers; or how cars/computers don't like them? I can only project my mind to understand how s...

Re: FSlint GUI how to find filetypes

if i use google to search the following code find -name "*.iso" It would indicate three things to google: search for keywork: find or search for the keyword: "*.iso" while excluding all results that contain the keyword: name So in your case of searching for: -filetype you would be better suited usin...

Re: FSlint GUI how to find filetypes

I think you google search is failing because

Code: Select all

-file
is a search to google telling you to exclude all results matching the keyword 'file'.

Re: Mindboggling filesystem partition issue

It seems the install options you choose were not fully understood. And even I am guilty of misunderstanding the gravity of this issue. Encryption, is actually encryption and not some trivial thing. The ability to grow a HD is really some renaming of the features of LVM. The Linux Mint Installer assu...

Re: Mindboggling filesystem partition issue

First, if you've been formatting with gparted, you probaly want to to use 'parted' instead of 'fdisk'. second, You need to 'resize/Shrink your windows partition. third, resize your linux partition. It also appears you have data on this disk. In this case, don't expect to keep your data. A resize of ...

Re: Disable OpenDNS

Amtriorix. Your reasoning subtlely makes its own counterpoints about why we/linux needs OpenDNS. It appears the browsers in windows, linux, mac have ability to override the default DNS given by the OS. It seems that popular browsers decided the use the OpenDNS to give users more trust to the validity ...

Re: I was told not to use CLI

The average user won't remember a series of obscure commands but they will remember where to click. Yes, and to the the graphical nature, being depentant on GUI interfaces of the day (Mate,Cinnamon,Gnome,XFCE). It will be renamed, moved, and sometimes grayed out. Telling someone how to use a GUI de...

Public reply to author of article: First, the article author uses the reference of 'Kids these days'. Bear with me during my overuse of this phrase, for I find its use humerus. I urge you to read it in a 'old man irish lighthouse inspector's voice'; for lolz of course. Kids these days don't have the...

Re: Firefox heavy on CPU?

Firefox uses many low priority threads. A CPU idle, is not an indication of how much work the CPU is doing. Its how much time is waisted by not doing anything. Lets make an example of extremes, the CPU wants to add two pieces of data from the HD. If programmed in a single thread, the CPU is marked a...

Re: Windows 8 virtual machine with VirtualBox

You extended the block device which is the harddrive. the partition map still believes the old size of the HD. You will need to resize the partition inside the guest os. These extra steps take a long time, that is why some OS installs use LVM; resizing a partition is much quicker.
