Re: root password

I think you should become root first:

Code: Select all

sudo -i
and then you can use passwd.

The best advise to LMDE users: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=198&t=112836&p=632179#p629994 Forget you ever heard of the apt-get upgrade command. That is all. :D 1- it's documented in the wounds and scars we got in the early days of lmde :D 2- it's also documented in the systems that c...

Re: DNS does not resolved domain names

You should temporary swith to google DNS or to DNS.watch (https://dns.watch/index) and see if it solves your problem. Edit: I have merged your topics together as they are linked. With the new elements, my previous answer is not accurate anymore. Please investigate this VPN kill switch feature....

I agree, this is one of the best option. It clones the entire disk and you can restore it exactly as it is.

Are you sure you have only the normal repo? Are you sure you didn't install anything manually? Or did not add any repo manually? Anyway, if you want us to help you: 1) Post the log of the apt update and apt dist-upgrade if you still have them in your terminal. 2) post the "dependency hell" that you ...

Hence, it is possible for an OS based on a Fixed Release OS to be Rolling Release, as long as there's a PPA.

Re: Google hit with record 2.4 bn euro EU fine

The interesting part is this was all done by commission. No court of law has been involved in this entire procedure. Why? Because no laws have been violated( as the press release states) . This is a typical strategy of accuse and hope they settle with the monies demanded. It objects to the fact tha...

That, it is. But it's also a lot of other things. I'm sure you realise that Google offers a lot of different services.
I know this. But the Google who was sued and condemned is the search engine. For the other components, it will come later.

Re: Google hit with record 2.4 bn euro EU fine

All governments are monopolies. Police, Fire, and to a very large extent, schools as well. If governments had to live up to the same laws they pass for private companies, those laws would never get passed. If you don't see the difference between a monopoly for a non profit organization (fire depart...

The real issue is the EU still does not, nor do they want too, understand free markets. I think they understand much better than you do. And then I look at the prices in Europe and in the USA for a lot of products, I'm glad we have a commission regulating the market. Look at the ridiculous pr...

Serena is no longer a listed distro. What was the point in installing Serena? I could have kept running Rosa thus avoiding more work and hassle. It is still listed: https://linuxmint.com/download_all.php And it is supported until 2021. If it works well, no need to update if you don't want to.

Something makes me uneasy. You clearly don't know what you have updated. Which is not normal. You should not update blindly. :?
You should have kept the file when asked. You should almost always keep the file when asked during the update.

Re: Black Screen after updating LMDE 2 Betsy

It would be helpful to know what you just updated. And how did you do it. Was it with the MintUpdate software?
By any chance, did you just update the kernel? If yes, you may try to boot from a previous version. Select an older kernel in the grub menu and see if it boots.
