Re: What is a good Linux for an old laptop?

My laptop is 10 years old with only a RAM upgrade 1-1.5 gigs of RAM and modern Mint Xfce runs very well.

If it was even slower I'd go for modern Lubuntu :)

Re: From South Carolina [USA]

I would heartily recommend Mint 13 Xfce! Easily the best distro I've ever used and other than a RAM upgrade the laptop I'm using atm is about 10 years old lol

Welcome aboard though! ^_^

Icon text highlighting on XFCE

I just edited the .gtkrc-xfce file and changed the second line from: XfdesktopIconView::label-alpha = 0 simply to: XfdesktopIconView::label-alpha = 100 Any chance this could be made the default? It can be very hard or even impossible to read the plain black, unhighlighted text below the icons in Min...

Re: Prettiest Linux distro ever? And most polished?

I prefer LM 13 Xfce to Voyager Xfce and LM 13 Xfce is what I use. The main sticking point for me with Voyager was font rendering. Mint gets it right even in Xfce, which is often not the case with other distros. I spent two full days doing all the usual things, plus combing Google for other things t...

Voyager looks nice yeah :)

I'll bung it on a pendrive!

I dunno if I'd use it as my main system though o.O

Re: Prettiest Linux distro ever? And most polished?

Just stuck Cinnamon on here too with the "mint-meta-cinnamon-dvd" package! It actually runs on this ancient laptop hehe! It's a tad slow, but as I still have the XFCE one on here I can chop and choose as I please, plus I'll be getting hold of a better machine soon :) Cool stuff ^_^ EDIT -- I think t...

Prettiest Linux distro ever? And most polished?

Well... is it? ^_^

I would vote yes! I think it's a dream of a distro... and I'm only on the lightweight XFCE version!

It's just SO polished! Consistent with so much artistic flair!

Pleasure to use :)

Keep it up dudes! ^_^

Hi everyone ^_^

What's up? :) I'm very new to Mint but have been using Linux on and off for nearly 10 years and Ubuntu on and off for a good while too. At the moment however especially with Mint XFCE on my old laptop I'm finding Mint to be more polished and less buggy too! So yeah erm, loving it right now! I do hav...
