Re: Windows 7 64bit will not install in Virtual Box

Honestly, with a dual core CPU like you are using, I'm very surprised both cores don't run at 105% all the time.... You are using a limited processor to run two 64 Bit OS's simultaniously. You also do not use nearly enough RAM IMHO. I have a feeling your processor usage is going to be high (and hot)...

Re: Linux Mint Server Edition??

Out of the box, Ubuntu command line is a little more colorful and easier to use than pure Debian. And while (finally) the current Debian stable does support my server hardware, the previous stable did not, where Ubuntu server did. The other thing to consider, is Debians manual partitioner (which you...

Linux Mint Server Edition??

Well, I like the ease of Ubuntu server vs. Debian. It allows a quicker setup of a server, and does so with better hardware support. I like Mint, vs. Ubuntu, due to the stability of having Mint manage the package updates, vs Ubuntu who often causes breakages with updates. So the question begs to be a...

Re: Why Debian testing?

Well said Widget. (Im curious however what debian packages or repos wouldn't work on a Ubuntu system?) A big +1 to everything you said. I use Ubuntu server on my good headless rig here, but I always hated the breakages with Ubuntu desktop versions. Linux Mint has proven to be an extremely solid OS, ...

Re: How to access internet in virtualbox?

Well, both works. It depends on your need. NAT settings hide your VM from your host network (but not your host itself), so in matter of security, it's safier. With NAT, you also need to set DNS adress on your VM, whereas in bridged network, your DHCP gives all settings for your VM just like your ho...

Re: Screenshot app malfunctioning, Linux Mint 13 with Cinnam

The ppa is basically an additional repository you added to your system. I'm assuming the package the other poster referrs to is "xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd" but I'm not sure as I do not have a Radeon or even the Cinnamon desktop

Re: Screenshot app malfunctioning, Linux Mint 13 with Cinnam

I have installed drivers Radeon HD Libre from Xorg-Edgars PPA to solve my graphics problem and some blackscreen at boot. Screenshot is working normally now and the video acceleration is far better than with Catalyst. For a Divx as for example, with VLC 2.1, CPU is used only for 3%, with Catalyst wi...

Are you using Mint 13 Mate or another version/desktop etc.? "I am not able" is not enough information to p...

Re: How to access internet in virtualbox?

I have LinuxMint as my host and am running a virtualbox with XP on it and I cant figure out how to access the internet. From your VM properties windows, choose "Bridged network" and the interface from your host you want your WinXP attached to. If you use wifi access, it should be something like wla...

Re: Windows 7 64bit will not install in Virtual Box

For internet connection, you want your virtualbox settings for the network adapter to use "Birdged adapter, eth0"...

Virtualbox defaults to using NAT for it's virtual guests, but NAT never works for the network interfaces. Dont ask me why, just change the Guest OS settings to bridged.

..... the only thing I miss from Windows is being able to use Ableton (I haven't managed to get it working in wine) and that problem will disappear once Bitwig Studio is finally released. So yeah, thanks a bunch to the Mint team. Truly an elegant operating system. I'd like to throw this out there t...

Re: Why Debian testing?

Ubuntu also uses Debian Testing... It's not just Mint. (Mint is very much ubuntu under the hood, its the desktops and package selections that are the main difference) The 6 month release versions of Ubuntu are actually based on Debian Sid. The LTS versions use the current (at the time) Testing repo...

Re: google earth success

Ill start by answering the OP. Yes Earth runs great in Mint, see what happens when Developers package up their wares in a .deb installer? Beautiful ain't it? Now to answer the second poster: You install goodle earth by downloading their .deb installer (for Ubuntu works fine for Mint). Then you just ...

I like MSI I'll start with that. But I know first hand in the High Performance PC world right now MSI is under alot of fire for burning out too easily when pushed. Don't let my comment sway your decision, I have a few (old) MSI boards here that are still great and have never had an issue. I'm just p...

All the settings you are looking for can be found in 'ccsm' (Compizconfig settings manager)

However there are some other things to be aware of also. See here for more info.

Re: Mate Window and Desktop Effects

Yes gconf-editor is different, it's gnomes editor. You need to install it to change the key for the theme in metacity, because the mate editor cannot access that key as it's a gnome thing. You need to play with that gnome setting because that's where compiz will be looking to find out what theme to ...
