Re: Unattended Upgrades (the horrors!)

With an attitude like that, no reasonable discussion is possible. Self-pity is a powerful drug and addicts are hard to cure. I'm only partaking in this discussion for the sake of others, who happen to read this thread. I made my signature from the BLEACHBIT thread that you and cosmo never gave any ...

Re: Unattended Upgrades (the horrors!)

I can't really get the unattended-upgrade configuration file right. I've just decided to scrap the idea really after considering the pros/cons. I've also decided just to make a notification script like BlackVeils has. Dont give up your idea - it is a great one. Because "these guys" follow some unwr...

Re: Unattended Upgrades (the horrors!)

I guess I could see if someone with NO KNOWLEDGE of linux and no understanding of Google search who somehow selects the options to update all and then has no audio for some reason could be in trouble.

Then this begs the question, how did they get from Windows to Linux?

Re: Unattended Upgrades (the horrors!)

Note that the way you install updates, makes Mint exactly the same as Ubuntu in this respect. So if I am understanding you, when you install ANY OPERATING SYSTEM, you do not choose the "apply all updates", you install the base package. Then read each and every update that would be applied, and sele...

Re: Unattended Upgrades (the horrors!)

I confess to not always reading the changelogs but I'm there to deal with it should problems arise. Exactly... "USUALLY" one would think that there would be an explosion of news regarding an update zapping systems You guys/gals make it seem like updating is like walking on thin ice with a heavy bac...

Re: Unattended Upgrades (the horrors!)

Now, I know, you're going to say it's a bad idea, and, yes, I realize that. Everyone jumped on the bandwagon and said DONT DO IT.... I say good for you that you want to accomplish this strategy. Go for it and keep us (or pm me) updated on how it turns out I was wondering if I followed this tutorial...

Re: Virtual Disk filled ??

Could it be that the host (W10) is running out of space and he setup his VM with a DYNAMIC drive allocation (it grows in chunks, not static where it creates 1 large file) for his VDI?
Maybe it cant expand at the HOST level and the VM is complaining it is out of space????

Re: Bluetooth speaker can't connect

Is it possible that you got a 1st gen bluetooth adapter with 4th gen speakers? I got a Logitech Blue tooth usb adapter that is about the size of a small cigarette lighter that gave me same problems. It briefly let me connect a keyboard, I could a headset for a short time but never volume, the mic on...

Re: Why are DNS servers free ?

Google LOOOOOOVES to collect your activity So their gain is that if you use their DNS, they know where you are going even if you have your browsers geared up with ad blockers and anti-tracking plugins. Think about it.... I have ghostery, ad block, microblock, etc on my browser so I see no ads howeve...

Try this: Open a command terminal and execute: which libreoffice What does it return? Mine returns "/usr/bin/libreoffice" *I am assuming your returns the same -if it returns nothing, it most likely is uninstalled Now in same terminal execute: /usr/bin/libreoffice Did it start? Do any errors show on ...

Re: Discouraged, just installed Linux Mint...

You probably had Windows 7 then MS force fed you the Windows 10 update. Thats why when you restored back to original Windows, you got your original Windows 7. You are also probably more like me than ZakGordon. ZakGordon took a few months to prepare and backup files in case the install didnt go so we...

I thought it was WINDOW SNAPPING
Control Center -> Look and Feel -> Windows -> Placement - Window Snapping

I unchecked and rebooted - no change

-----EDIT FOUND IT----
If I change from Marco to Metacity (Desktop settings -> Windows), windows dont stick to each other

I had similar problem on a machine. I had these setting which helped Section "Device" Identifier "Intel Graphics" Driver "intel" Option "TripleBuffer" "on" Option "SwapbufferWait" "on" Option "TearFree" "true" EndSection However, it seem to have lost the "sparkle" in some movies although the tearing...

Re: Automatic Updates finally part of Linux Mint 18..?

The problem with the cron job is obvious. It doesn't allow the control of what level of updates get installed like the update manager does. Ok I see this... so you dont want every update, just updates of a specific level. I would think you'd want all - I take all myself I'm not sure there is a lot ...
