Re: Automatic Updates finally part of Linux Mint 18..?

You can post a link to a cron-job tutorial that activates automatic updates and I tell you where the problem is. How about lets start with basics - have cron update and upgrade at 9 am 0 9 * * * root /usr/bin/apt-get update && /usr/bin/apt-get upgrade -y or on reboot @reboot root /usr/bin/apt-get u...

Re: Automatic Updates finally part of Linux Mint 18..?

@CarlosDanger I am confused, this issue here is that MINTUPDATE does not have an "automatic update" tickbox that is a set-and-forget option? I mean the cron job option seems to the be answer you are looking for, this is for people that you know aren't linux savvy or may just ignore the update shield...

Re: External USB 3.0 Slow to Mount - Kernel/Driver Issue?

Try this: Create this file as root: /etc/modprobe.d/ignore_uas.conf Insert this one line in the file: options usb-storage quirks=059f:1062:u Save file and exit Update the initramfs sudo update-initramfs -u Reboot How does it work? If no change or not seen, remove the file, update initramfs and reboo...

Re: BleachBit My Question

If you used the program enough and/or have knowledge of the features and know not to blindly select choices and just click OK, it is ok to use. It is not going to JUST EXPLODE at some point. Tapping off what Moem said... a chainsaw is tool that can be used as a suicide machine if given to someone no...

Nice to pick out just the things you wanna see Cosmo. You just made my point here.... Thanks! Talking anything about BleachBit in this forum is forbidden unless it is negative gossip it seems. I gave up after this thread Here . I favor your openness about the app. AGAIN FOR THE RECORD: I have no as...

Linux Mint Mate vs Ubuntu Mate - what are the differences?

I just installed Ubuntu Mate on identical hardware as Linux Mint Mate Outside of the choice of some default applications, the cosmetics of the Mate desktop and the version of kernel.... Does anyone have opinions of these going head to head? Pro Ubuntu Mate/Con Linux Mint: Faster boot time - speculat...

Re: When is it too many?

If there were say 2000 Linux programmers and developers total, then yes, 800+ distros are too much. If it is free and open source, there will be someone that looks at the code and go "Aha I see what they are doing but it would be cool to do this instead". In a closed source proprietary environment, ...

Re: Full Install to USB

Linux mint or just about any linux (except for arch linux and the hardcore linux line) should adapt to any machine. I have a machine that i swapped out video cards from on-board Intel to Nvidia to AMD, added a usb3 card and replaced it with an sata card. Linux started up just fine. I had an old hard...

Re: How to make SD card writable again..?

Well I do understand your frustration but at the same time, I am not experiencing your problem either with nearly the same equipment. As far as peoples preferences, auto-updating,how to handle a device that is not 100% clean by definition, is a matter of perspective. Mint is a great OS but it is not...

Re: How to make SD card writable again..?

So I unplugged the USB stick which triggered Mint to remove the folder Are you pulling out the USB and not gracefully ejecting it? You should (either from the desktop icon or in file manager) right click the USB drive, choose EJECT or SAFELY REMOVE DRIVE, wait a moment then remove the USB Just pull...

Re: How to make SD card writable again..?

Just read your 2nd update I tried different mounting tricks advices on the web. And mount tells me it is rw-mounted: /dev/sdb1 on /media/usul/USB type vfat (rw) but the error-dialog always shows telling me it is read-only The funny thing is, I can write to it using sudo. Try this sudo chmod 777 /med...

Re: How to make SD card writable again..?

I have a similar problem with SD card. My truck has an Android/Radio/Navigation/whatever that replaced the stock radio. The EXTERNAL storage is an SD Card. When I want to add music to the card and I mount it on Mint, I some times get the READONLY issue. I run GPARTED, choose the SD CARD, umount the ...
