Re: Bleachbit

5 people will post in any given BleachBit thread about how BleachBit has worked flawlessly for them... ...and... ...20 people won't post (mostly due to embarrassment) about how BleachBit hosed their entire system and made their important and un-backed up data disappear. I love hard facts... R...

Re: Bleachbit

Can Bleachbit securely erase a usb stick ? Yes but it would be the wrong tool for that task. Bleachbit can accomplish many jobs (although there is disagreement with my logic at times - and I am NOT continuing THAT discussion) but it is not an ALL PURPOSE FIX IT TOOL. You asking about securely erasi...

Re: Bleachbit

Not a good idea. Only the flash memory of an SSD is fit for the frequent write actions of an operating system. The flash memory of an SD card is not: expect rapid deterioration. The system is this Liva Bat Mini (2gb /32 g) Amazon shows ssd, mint shows it as SD Card Either way - if it lasts 2 years,...

Re: Opera's new ad-blocking browser

I thought it was Opera but maybe not - some BROWSER company was making a AD BLOCK feature that loaded in LESS intrusive ads. I was thinking "this isn't really accomplishing much, kind of like watching a TV commercial vs watching a tv commercial with sunglasses". I like my mix of Ghostery, microBlock...

LinuxJim... I hope this was for the entire thread and not specifically at me? I may use "blah blah blah" to fill in obvious long winded areas but it wasnt meant to be flippant LinuxJim please... Re: Why use BleachBit?

if a Linux Mint user gets into difficulties after confessing to use Bleachbit, will he/she get unbiased assistance or will this self-righteous evangelising drive them away. Excellent point. I see something like this occurring... Topic: Software Manager quit working... Description: Software manager ...

Re: Why use BleachBit?

Me joining in this chat (and a great chat that I hoped would have been created a while ago) isnt about making people angry. This is the open chat section, right? I am asking (now begging) for a thread of people that regret using it. Not someone blindly saying it sucks without some proof or a good st...

Re: Why use BleachBit?

This is simply what people do. We don't get the option to tell them anything until after the fact, when they come here. This makes the most sense in this thread and I agree The fact that there are so many discussions warning of the dangers of bleach bit indicate that there is a problem . All this t...

Re: Why use BleachBit?

Classic... So open bb as normal user and choose only the 'Free disc space' option. Press the 'Clean' button. Come back and tell us how you like your weasle-ware now ...I love these examples (as I picture someone with fingers crossed) So, are you saying this is a guarantee kill option or are you sayi...

Re: Why use BleachBit?

My signature HOPEFULLY makes people think about my comments. And I am my suggestions are just that "SUGGESTIONS". I dont claim I will hold someone hand from start to finish on their issue. I am not Linux Mint paid support personnel. I admit I will be wrong but I love to learn. Why should anyone acce...

Re: Why use BleachBit?

Wait...regardless of results, NO ONE will change their opinion of BleachBit if this succeeds. This thread will most likely get stickied if it fails. But people (specifically 1000+ posts that cant stand BB), you mention that there are countless times BB destroyed a system. You may not count the numbe...

Re: Why use BleachBit?

You know what? I am going to do that Choose every option... yes yes yes it I will have to get my camera out to somehow prove I am not lying if it works or if it fails. Then we can do DONT RTFM with other apps and see how they hold up? FDISK, GPARTED, RM, etc and perhaps we can see how safe other app...

Re: Why use BleachBit?

Ive been hunting down BleachBit incidents and I only seem to find "catastophies" when using the free disk space options which writes to the disk (massive file) to hide deleted file data. Now if you look at the tool TODAY... you have APT ----- autoclean: Delete obsolete files autoremove: Delete obsol...

Other things to try (and here I give the disclaimer "I cant help you if your problem gets worse at this point") ===== Have you modified your intel settings - which I think your display settings are doing with VSYNC optioon Mine are located here: /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf With these co...

Re: vid drivers & tearing

I had same error attaching picture - using RIMG instead of IMG worked for me Back to your issue Have you tried xrender, then going up (OpenGl 1.2, 2.0 then 3.1) to see if they make a difference? Also for the other general options and opengl options, disable any "features" and just get to a plain van...
