[SOLVED] Problem with subtitles in text editors

Ever since I migrated to Linux I have this problem with subtitles (srt and sub format) when I open them in any Linux native text editor - the integrated in Cinnamon editor, Notepadqq and many others. The ONLY editor that displays them correctly is notepad.exe through wine but then they're uneditable...

Anyone having problems archiving folders?

In the last few days a weird problem appeared - I can archive a bunch of files in whatever format of the archive, but when I try to archive a whole folder (chromium's folder, for instance; browser is closed), the archiving process hangs when it reaches 134 files remaining. I usually make the archive...

Requesting 2 features for xplayer in Mint 19

Xplayer seems to be best player (even better than SMPlayer) I could find so far but it lacks 2 simple and yet important features: the ability to set custom size of subtitles outlining AND the ability to change the default controls such as keys and mouse button. So I'm requesting them for Cinnamon 19.

Inconsistent audio levels in SMPlayer

When I play a movie, I noticed that the sound level are inconsistent - voices of characters are too quiet but when there's music or environment sounds (for instance the thunders on "San Andreas" (2015) when the shaking starts), these sounds are so loud that I have to reduce the sould level to very l...

Re: Why I no longer use Linux?

Why I no longer use Linux? 1. It does not support my Soundblaster z sound card. 2. It does not support bank time on file. 3. It does not automatically support usb3 1. You mean the producer of that sound card doesn't write drivers for Linux. Don't blame Linux for that. Instead of the regular Realtek...

"Arial", "Liberation sans" or "FreeSans", all bold, for GUIs.
I like bold too but on Linux Arial Bold doesn't always look good and sometimes it becomes unreadable, no matter what size I set.

What's your favorite font to use in Linux?

I suppose everyone has different taste, hence everyone use different fonts in Linux. Show me yours. :)
Mine is Noto Sans - this seems to be the only font close enough to Calibri.

Question about a gaming keyboard

I have gaming keyboard A4Tech G800V X7 keyboard which I had it setup in Windows 7 enironment. This keyboard has special G buttons - from G1 to G16 (no G8  ). These are fast keys that can be used for quick access in and out of games. For instance, if there's a combination of Ctrl+Shift+Alt+H, ...

Moving PlayOnLinux

Does anyone know how to move PlayOnLinux on another partition? I can format it to become ext4, if necessary. Currently it's empty and is NTFS. I wanna install some games but I don't wanna fill my Linux partition with games.

Is your system up to date? and did you attempt to install using gdebi? one other possibility is you machine connected to the Internet? It will have to be to download the dependencies. Yes. Idk what that is. I'm still taking my first serious steps in Linux. Yes, it is - all the time. Home wi-fi netw...

From today I join the club of those who keep Windows 7 backed up in an image for "just in case" and single boot Linux.

Re: Clues: Why did UEFI dual boot Live CD Linux Mint install failed?

This happens because Crapows 10 is the most invasive OS ever created and every time it starts it overwrites any GRUB it can find. Skynet destroyed man kind because its OS was Crapows 10. Also, by default Crapows 10 doesn't shutdown completely. Instead, it enters a state called "Deep sleep" - a...

Re: 1st choice in Grub on dualboot with Windows

I don't know if this has ever been posted and I apologize in advance for any duplicate post. When installing Mint next to an existing Windows installation by default Mint is chosen as primary boot. I think this is rather unfriendly towards the Windows user. Often Mint is installed side by side with...

I just install chrome on my mint, it works just as well as in windows. A little offtopic here but... how did you do that? I downloaded a deb of Chrome but when I tried to install it, there was a message that goes something like "not all dependencies were satisfied" and that's it - I'm not a...

Debian 9 is crap and I doubt Debian 10 would be anything different. I hope Mint devs never stop develop the Ubuntu based edition. If that happens, I'll have migrate back to Windows.

Re: Running a windows program on mint linux without crashes

I've ran several Windows programs on Linux so far. For that you need to install Wine, Wine-Gecko, Wine-mono and PlayOnLinux. With these 4 programs even the capricious Photoshop works with no problems. If that doesn't work, I think the only option left for you is to install Windows on a VM, if you ha...
