Re: Safely install Windows AFTER installing Linx mint ?

Now, how do I reinstall a fresh Windows 10 without disturbing my Linux Mint installation and having them both appear in the boot menu? First use clonezilla to backup your Mint installation (just in case). Then install Windows 10. Then, assuming Windows 10 didn't completely destroy Linux, run a live...

Re: Installing Wine 3.9

I see. This app in particular is off the list, so I posted a report on POL's forum.
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to answer my questions, mate. :)

Re: Installing Wine 3.9

Looks like POL has installed only 2.0, so I just made it install 3.10.
Do I have to uninstall 2.0 in order to make all Windows apps use 3.10 or will that happen automatically?

Installing Wine 3.9

Yes you can install any version of wine up to 3.9 at last count. Speaking of Wine 3.9, I downloaded it 2 days ago but idk where to put it. According to some instructions I found, I should just overwrite the files in the wine folder. However, the directory structure in /usr/share/wine is quite diffe...

How can I change the combination Ctrl+H?

How can I change the combination Ctrl+H to something more convenient, like Alt+. , for instance? I couldn't find the option "Show hidden files" in the keyboard settings for shortcuts. I also tried to add a custom shortcut with each of the commands ls -la, ls -a, ls -A as people suggested in a Facebo...

Re: Question on dual boot hard drive partitioning

19 is available to download altough it's still beta. So they better stick with 18.3 for now and when 19 comes officially, you can simply upgrade their 18.3 to 19. Idk whether they can share the same home and even if they can, I have my doubts about the outcome. So I sugges you make 2 partitio...

I'm impressed with the new kernel v4.13.0.45! [Just a little feedback]

Earlier today I made a clonezilla copy of my Linux installation (4.10 by default) and about a few hours ago the update manager popped up telling me there was a kernel update. So I figured "I have a full backup now, let's try it and see what happens". After all one learns best from self-teaching, eit...

Re: Linux Gaming

How is gaming on Linux? Is it getting better as Steam drops more and more titles on Linux? How about drivers for video cards to allow excellent frame rates? What is the opinion of the forum? FPS doesn't depend so much on the driver as it does on the optimization made by the game devs. Altough regar...

What would you use if Mint wasn't available?
Something Debian based - that's for sure. And with Cinnamon DE.

Re: Whats everyone currently listening to?

I'm listening to a song I'm lucky to have cuz it's quite hard to find anywhere, even from torrents: Busta Rhymes feat. DJ Grind (bootleg) - You Got it (Like That). I'm having a spiritual orgasm from the bass in that song...

Personally, I use both. I use Synaptic for when I know exactly what I need. When I just wanna have a look at all of the available software, I use the Software Manager.

Looks like the system is coming out of standby.
No, that's after reboot. Waking it up from "suspend to RAM" happens a lot faster than that.

Re: Tried Ubuntu 18.04 but I have returned to LinuxMint 18.3

the Linux System, unlike some other system, does not force you to upgrade, if you do not wish to do so. That's one of the things I like about Linux in general. The other thing about updating/upgrading I like is that you can choose local sources for maximum download speed - something Windows doesn't...

Re: At the Mercy of the local WiFi police

Whoa, I thought USA would have better mobile internet access (not Wi-Fi), considering it's a far more advanced country than mine. Here in my country every summer I go to a town called Velingrad and at 2.5 miles from the cell of my operator (Vivacom) the download speed is 5 Mbit/s (upload is about 3 ...

Based on what?
Based on a performance comparison with the same hardware. Things that 18.3 does in a few seconds, Mint 17 does them in many seconds.

Re: Reminded yet again, why I hate Win10

No idea what features imgburn might have that aren't available in other burner applications. K3b and xfburn are both pretty good. But, the imgburn website suggests that it should run on Linux in Wine. mp3gain might be no longer maintained but it still works, so I'll use it until I can't use it anym...

I hate Garbage 10 even with installing it just once to try it. Both on my phone and my PC I had the same problem - when trying to save an image, Garbage 10 says "you do not have enough permissions to do that"! :? I don't have enough permissions to access my own computer/phone?! That was the first an...

Re: too little room in 'Boot'

I hope this answers the stupid question for you. Yes, it does. But before I read your answer I didn't know it was where kernels go. Given that grub is just a few megabytes, it puzzled me why would anyone make a few gigabyte partition for something that takes 10-15 megabytes. My grub is installed on...
