Which version of Ubuntu is Mint 13 based on?

Greetings, I searched the internet and could not find which version of Ubuntu Linux Mint 13 "Maya" edition is based upon and was hoping someone could tell me. I am currently using Mint 13 and find it to be a very good version of Mint. I've been running it for about a year now with virtually no troub...

Having trouble downloading and installing an application

Hi, I am trying to download and install the "Lynx" web browser from the software manager in Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon. But when I go to see if it is installed under the menu button it never shows up under the "internet" category, nor if I do a text search for it to see if it was placed somewhere else d...

Nautilus image browsing thumbnails too small

In Nautilus when I'm browsing my image files, how do I make the thumbnail preview images larger? Or for that matter, the folders themselves are kind of on the small side too.

Thank you

How do I check the status of my printer in Mint 13

Hi,
I just did a fresh, clean install of Linux Mint 13 on my laptop and plugged in my HP Deskjet 3050 printer with a USB cable, how do I check the status of my printer and print a test page?

Thank you

Why does Mint work so well right out of the box?

I've been using Linux Mint for a little while now and it's been the first truly usable Linux distro right out of the box that I've tried (and I've tried many!). With all the other distro's I've had to devote considerable time and effort and fiddling just to get them to where Mint and Ubuntu are "as ...

Backwards compatibility of Mint to Ubuntu to Debian

I read somewhere that Ubuntu is NOT compatible with Debian even though it is based on Debian. What aspect in particular is not compatible with Debian and why? Also; is Mint considered fully or just partially backwards compatible with Ubuntu or not at all compatible and why?

Thank you

Re: Mint 12 vs. Mint 13

How often do new releases come out for Mint? And when they do come out, are they flagged as being "regular release" or "LTS"? What is the meaning of the scheme to come out with a regular release and a LTS release and support one for a shorter period of time and the other for a longer period of time?...

Re: Mint 12 vs. Mint 13

What is meant exactly by "supported"? 5 year support? Linux Mint 12 is supported till April next year. Linux Mint 13 till April 2017. Other than that I figure the important differences are the versions of the applications; Linux Mint 13 will have newer versions of kernel and applications, which won'...

Terminal vs Console, what's the difference?

I am running Mint 12 LXDE. I noticed that there are three terminal applications in the software menu: LXTerminal, UXTerm and XTerm. My question is, why are there three termal programs included by default and what are the differences between them and why do I need three? Why not just include one "con...

Re: Files on USB stick won't delete

Thank you, I will have to get into the habit of manually unmounting it. I noticed that even though I got an error message when I was reformatting the stick, it seems to have still formated the stick anyway because it deleted all the old files and it seems to be holding new files that I put on it. I ...

Re: Files on USB stick won't delete

Well I tried to reformat the USB stick and got an error message. Here's what it said: Error formatting volume Error creating file system: helper exited with exit code 1: helper failed with: Total number of sectors (977664) not a multiple of sectors per track (60)! Add mtools_skip_check=1 to your .mt...

Re: Files on USB stick won't delete

I am simply plugging it in and unplugging it. I see that I have the option to format the stick and I'm certian formating it would solve the problem. I see that I have the option to format the stick and make it compatible with all systems (FAT), Linux systems (ext 2), Linux systems (ext 4) or encrypt...

Where's the LXDE/Fluxbox desktops for version 13?

Hi, I am new to Mint and this forum, so be nice. I see by doing a Google search there was an LXDE desktop available for version 12, is there any plans for an LXDE destkop for version 13? I also see there used to be a Fluxbox version as well, only it was available for version 9  This would be be...

Files on USB stick won't delete

Hi, I am running Linux Mint 13 Xfce edtion on my laptop and was just given a USB stick for free. I plugged the stick into a USB socket on my laptop and it mounts the stick fine and shows up on the desktop as an icon of "501MB filesystem". When I double click on it to open it up there are old folders...
