Re: Dedoimedo review of Isadora

I'm a fan of Dedoimedo - he consistently gives intelligent, useful information. But I think he's kvetching about nothing, here. His review of Mint 8 was absolutely glowing. I think this time he's just disappointed not to have new stuff to play around with. But for my money, that's just fine. I would...

Re: Installing LaTeX in Mint 9 - an oopsie

Thanks. I do have texlive-base and textlive-base-latex installed. So I guess the problem isn't due to pdflatex not being there. Can you tell me the default compile command for the texlive package? I think if I enter that in the plugin options for the editor, I'll be okay. FOLLOWUP => : I entered "pd...

Installing LaTeX in Mint 9 - an oopsie [SOLVED]

When I install the texlive packages (LaTeX installation) in Mint 9, the pdflatex module is not installed. Yet it's required for producing pdf files from some LaTeX editors, for example jEdit with the LaTeX Tools plug-in. pdflatex is not in the Mint repos. I assume this is a trickle-down error from U...

Re: Jedit - can't install the Latex Tools plugin

Thanks a bunch, but pdflatex isn't in the repos. I thought xetex was supposed to do the same as pdflatex, only better. ??

Re: Jedit - can't install the Latex Tools plugin

I got the LaTeX Tools plugin to work successfully - in part. Seems you have to install the Console, Sidekick, and GnuRegexp plugins for it to work properly. I'm able to compile a .tex file to .dvi, but not to pdf. In the Plugin Options screen for LaTeX Tools, you need to type the Default Compile Com...

Re: Jedit - can't install the Latex Tools plugin

Thanks - I installed it manually - may have made a mistake. Will try the internal method (with downloading from jedit site).

Jedit - can't install the Latex Tools plugin

It may be a question of pointing Jedit to the right files to compile, preview, etc. using the Latex Tools, but so far I'm unable to get the plugin to work. Anybody have experience with this? The docs are incomprehensible.

Re: Firefox google search box annoyance (bug?)

Thank you, lazyr. In FF 3.6.6 with the default Mint Firefox "thingy" active, clicking at the bottom of a search page on "2" or "next" displays a 404...not found error. The "Google (Language: EN)" option works fine.

Re: Fresh install of Mint 9 - Thunderbird won't start

Actually, it didn't work, but the solution you gave did. For other users with the same problem, here's what I did: moved the old profile to the .thunderbird folder (filename b5bmtaaw.default - the "b5bmtaaw" will change for each new profile TB creates, including at a new installation - profiles are ...

Re: Fresh install of Mint 9 - Thunderbird won't start

Thanks, however, I tried stopping TB in System Monitor, where it was listed as a zombie process, and it didn't work - TB wouldn't be killed (zombie, indeed). Also, "Automatically remember currently running applications..." is unchecked. I'm thinking it may be related to the fact that I copied a TB p...

Fresh install of Mint 9 - Thunderbird won't start [SOLVED]

I installed Mint 9 and tried to run Thunderbird, but it doesn't load. I get a message that Thunderbird is already loaded. In the system monitor app Thunderbird appears as a zombie process. If I reboot, TB is still in the system monitor as a zombie (and of course it won't load). And, well, I'm wonder...

How to downgrade from Thunderbird 3.0.4 (which sucks)

Thunderbird 2.0.x worked nicely for me, but I'm having all kinds of problems with TB 3.0.4, the version included with Isadora. It takes 10-12 seconds to begin checking mail in my first email account. By contrast, Claws Mail and Evolution begin immediately. (I'm unwilling to switch, as I have thousan...

Re: Thunderbird 3.0.4 is terrible - and regression doesn't w

Bob, thanks for responding. The first problem I have is that it takes TB 10-12 seconds to begin downloading mail from the first account of five. I also have way too many timeouts and "unable to connects" with the accounts. These seems to occur almost randomly - one time it's one account, next time a...

Thunderbird 3.0.4 is terrible - and regression doesn't work

Googling, I find I'm not the only user who's had a terrible experience with Thunderbird 3.0.4. Instructions for reverting by installing TB 2.0.0.23 or 2.0.0.24 over 3.0.4 are easy to find - but they don't work in Mint 9. Trying to run configure in the extracted Thunderbird folder doesn't work (./con...

Re: How to revert to Thunderbird 2.0.0.24

Thanks. The ls- l command didn't find a configure file, and make returns: make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop. Searched Mozillazine and Mint forums but haven't found instructions for installing TB from a tgz file. Maybe it's one of those apps you just move to the home folder a...

How to revert to Thunderbird 2.0.0.24

I'm finding Thunderbird 3.x really buggy. I'd like to revert to 2.0.0.24. I downloaded the .tgz file for 2.0.0.24 and extracted it to its own folder under ~/home. Now, when I go into the folder where the files were extracted and try to do ./configure, I get an error message: bash: ./configure: No su...

Thunderbird won't start

installed Mint 9 - nice. However, Thunderbird (default install) won't start. It doesn't show in the system monitor, yet it gives the following message then exits: Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, or re...

Re: Mint 9 install erased my /home [SOLVED]

Just for completeness, when I forgot to spec the /home partition during install, Mint 9 created a new /home folder in the root partition (/). That new home folder had folders with the same names as the folders in my old /home partition. Mint left my old files on the old home partition and didn't for...

Re: Mint 9 install erased my /home [SOLVED]

Vincent - Weirder and weirder. The files in my old home folder are on the current home partition. They just don't show up under my home folder in Nautilus; they appear in a separate listing in Nautilus for a 31 GB drive, which is the total space on my old home partition. Puzzling, but good to know M...
