Re: Realtek RTL8187 Wireless Adapter on fresh Mint 18 cannot connect to WiFi

Maybe this video can assist you > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syZcfQ8cgQM I'm not 100% sure, but going to the Realtek website was a complete waste for me - I don't see any wireless drivers on their site, but maybe I missed them. Never used Realtek on my Linux boxes, so not sure - let us know :mr...

Re: LM 17.3 Rosa: Failed google drive ocamlfuse

On 17.3 Cinnamon I encountered similar naughty behavior of Rosa; seems, that cheeky Lady needs a little bit treatment.. So, if you get no effect after $ google-drive-ocamlfuse (Firefox is not coming up, and/or terminal just shut down) then we need to open the "terminal as root" respectively open th...

[SOLVED] Wine Dev Branch

What's the best way to get on the Wine Dev release (1.9.15) from the one that's standard in Mint 18 (1.6.2) without downloading the package each time they release one?

This is a non-prd box, so being on the dev branch isn't a problem. Is there a dev PPA to add?

Thanks in advance!

Re: NTFS external HD

If it doesn't, then

Try to see if there is an entry in the disk list with

Code: Select all

sudo fdisk -l

Then try mounting it with

Code: Select all

sudo mount -t ntfs /dev/sdb1 /media
To find the correct /dev/sdb location for your external drive look at the result of sudo fdisk -l

Re: I Hate to Ask But...IE?

If all else fails, just use Windows in a VM just for IE...I do this for my work (a lot of C based programs that work weird on anything but IE) and it works great :|

Re: E-mail provider / E-mail-account ?

I have Gmail (2 accounts), Hotmail/Outlook, Yahoo and Mail.com I would recommend Gmail or Outlook imo bc of the apps and storage available to you from them. But really it doesn't matter, it's all up to you. The reason I have multiple is so my main one is not clogged with spam emails, I use the other...

Re: Having shutdown/logoff problems with two different compu

Have you tried installing the nVidia drivers for your graphics card? I'm not sure if that would cause the power/screen issues, but I don't believe it would hurt. You should have them available in the "Driver Manager" menu. I believe the version is nvidia-340(recommended). Other than that I would try...

Re: Blu-Ray Player Linux

Well as the post says, Blu Ray on Linux can be a tricky thing... Did you do all 3 steps and then reboot? Step 1: Install it sudo add-apt-repository ppa:heyarje/makemkv-beta sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install makemkv-bin makemkv-oss Step 2: Uninstall the open-source libaacs sudo apt-get remove ...

That is weird...
Maybe post back the full info for both PC's

Code: Select all

Also look in this thread and see if issue is similar >> http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... &p=1067240

I would assume the kernel to be the answer to be honest...

Re: Linux Mint Installation

First - what version of Mint are you trying to install? I'm assuming 17.3, but you know what they say about assumptions  Well it is possible the Live USB does not recognize the NIC onboard the MB I guess...do you have another NIC you can try? I always keep older NIC's and WiFi USB's around as o...

Re: Cinnamon / MATE / KDE / or Xfce ?

In my opinion, this comes down to what hardware I'm using for the Linux install:
  • Cinnamon is my favorite if resources aren't a problem and want something user friendly
MATE or Xfce if it's a netbook or low-resource PC
KDE if I'm looking for something to tinker with or custimize

I meant also to see what driver you were currently using as well, can you post back the answer to this:

Code: Select all

lspci -nnk | grep -i vga -A3 | grep 'in use'
**You can leave off the last "| grep "in use" for more details if you'd like**
