Re: how do you add website shorcuts to panel?

Go to the page, then drag the little earth at the left of the url onto the panel. This assumes Firefox. What earth? That's no use. I'm not trying to make shortcuts inside a browser. Shortcut is suppose to be on Cinnamon taskbar. He means the "earth"/"globe" favicon to the left of the web address > ...

Re: custom keyboard layout

Have you gone through all the options in System Settings > Keyboard (under the Hardware heading) ??

If so, I used this documentation in the past >> Custom Keyboard Layouts in Ubuntu
It's Ubuntu info, but Mint is built off it so it should work for you.

Re: Everything is small?

Unfortunately because you're mixing old world and new world, you can't solve this nicely. Right now you can't configure DPI per monitor on Linux. So you can either toggle HiDPI and everything will look correct on the HiDPI monitor but huge on the other one. Or as it is right now everything looks ti...

Re: popup after updates installed

Wait, you're getting the popup after you install updates via the Update Manager that your system is up-to-date? If so, that sounds right to me....I actually never use the Update Manager lol as I always use apt-get via terminal :mrgreen:

Re: Everything is small?

I mean, you can change the font size in the System Settings under Appearance and Fonts - but I'm not sure if you can scale everything else without changing the display ratio...

Which monitor has all small stuff, the 1080 or the 2160?

Re: Help old pc

If it were me: I'd save off my personal documents and then do a fresh install of Linux Mint 17.2 Xfce found here for 32-bit or here for 64-bit :wink:

Re: Help old pc

So is it just your internet browsing that is running slow, everything else is quick-ish? Also, btw, according to your screenshot you are running the KDE version of LM 17.2. In my experience, KDE is a very resource hungry Desktop Environment (DE) by comparison. Better DE's to use are MATE or Xfce , b...

Re: Re : Rosa

In addition to what the others said above, basically, you don't have to change anything if you're happy with your 17.2 Xfce OS. It is supported until April 2019 just like 17.3 Rosa is, so there's nothing to worry about. Simply stay on what you have and continue along your way :wink: However if you w...

Re: Setting Keyboard shortcut to Ctrl-Shift-Esc

I believe it might depend on what DE you're using, however I have used this on Cinnamon:
  • Open gconf-editor --> apps --> metacity --> global_keybindings --> run_command_1

    Type <Super>x

    Goto keybindings_commands --> command_1

    Type <your_command>

Re: Installing with USB stick but laptop keyboard doesn't wo

I would get a cheap USB keyboard and simply install LM on the laptop using that. Then you can monkey around with the default keyboard on the laptop until you get it working. Maybe newer kernels will help you, which you can fairly easily try once you have LM installed. Let us know, thanks!

Re: MATE 17.1 - Suspends, doesn't wake up

Welcome to the wonderful wonder of wake-after-suspend on Linux...it's probably something with the hardware vendors, but I cannot get it working on any Ubuntu-based distros :(
Sorry, wish I knew as well

You'll also find Linux Mint MATE to be a good low-resource desktop environment. Something to remember if you do not like the Xfce DE :mrgreen:

Re: Switching between Linux and W7

If you have alot of memory, A good CPU and somewhat modern computer just install Virtualbox. This is actually a very good point - VM's while running WILL take hardware resources away from your main OS. If you're running a dual-core with 2gb of RAM, might have trouble having Linux AND running Win7. ...

Re: Switching between Linux and W7

If you have a copy of Win7, just install VirtualBox from the Software Manager on Mint and follow the instructions. Note - this must be a 32-bit of Win7, not 64-bit. This was for LM13 but should still work today >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3upRoydFN-4 Like others said, you could run a Win7 PC ...
