Re: How to update to Mint KDE 17.1 from RC?

" Clem Says:

Note: The Xfce release should follow shortly in the coming days, and then an update to mintupdate which enables the upgrade path from 17 to 17.1 for both editions."

Re: How to update to Mint KDE 17.1 from RC?

I found a process explained on the blog for Cinnamon, and an indication it should be the same for KDE, but when I select EDIT in Update Manager, the update doesn't exist. I did receive/install an update to mintupdate. The push-button upgrade to 17.1 for KDE is not in place yet...should be in the co...

Re: Downgrade from 17.1 to 17

I wouldn't bother with downgrading, but that's just me. Can you safe off all your data and then try installing 17.1 fresh? Or even 17 if you don't mind staying on that release...

Re: Do you update level 4 and level 5 packages?

Exactly what Xeno said - you should go in and read the info on the updates and make an informed decision on your own. I always back my documents to Dropbox (or an external HDD) before making these changes thus protecting myself from loss. I however do not mind restoring or re-installing if something...

Re: Dual boot Windows and Mint

Hmmm, I've never had a Linux PC and then tried to dual-boot a Windows OS to it. It's always been the other way around for me - as in, had Windows and dual-booted Linux to it. Those were all super easy when using Mint or Ubuntu, and they both had easy to use partition editing when installing the Mint...

Re: Is it safe to install linux kernel 3.18 in Mint?

I would encourage you to try out kernel 3.16.0-25-generic as it's easily installable via the Update Manager (click on "View" and "Linux kernels"), and gives you and easy one-stop-shop to see all the kernels you have installed and such. My PC is on 17.1 Cinnamon 64-bit with an nVidia GPU and Intel NI...

Re: Can't find Conky or System Monitor

I third Conky Manager! lol  To use, first do this: sudo apt-add-repository -y ppa:teejee2008/ppa Second do this: sudo apt-get update Third and last do this: sudo apt-get install conky-manager Then anytime you need to upgrade it (it doesn't get upgraded all that often), you just run the last...

Re: [SOLVED] Adding Google to Search Engines

Well I actually [SOLVED] this question myself lol, derp derp. For those needing to know, it's a multi-part process and thus it's not explained fully on the Mint page. For one, once you choose Google from the page I listed below, choose the "G" icon from the Drop-Down menu at the top right on your Fi...

[SOLVED] Adding Google to Search Engines

I'm very familiar with how Mint does not have Google as a default Search Provider, and also with needing to manually add it for each Mint PC I set up. However my issue now is with the changes they've made to Firefox (currently using 34.0) when I go to add Google from this page > http://www.linuxmint...

Re: Try other OS systems out?

Thanks for that. If it is "never, VirtualBox", but I still need a prog to see them, have you other options? Jo Well most Linux distros have a "Live" DVD ISO that you can boot into just like Mint, but you always have the option to dual-boot or you can use other VM software such as VMware. A good sou...

You'll probably get trashed for saying this, but I would encourage you to keep trying. What are you trying to do with Java? I use it on Linux Mint daily fine, so maybe there's still hope for you

Re: How to install Linux Mint together with two Windows 8.1?

if you have separate / root,, /home,, /swap - partitions, then it makes a - re-install / upgrade - much easier. typically you would have ~ 10Gb for /,, 50 - 100Gb+ for /home,, 1 - 2Gb /swap. - but you have to manually specify that configuration, as the installer will only create Two partitions, if ...
