Re: Mint 13 Mate

I also switched to Mint from Ubuntu's hell, and I find it much more polished (e.g., Mint XFCE is much better than Xubuntu). I have the Nadia Cinnamon edition, although I installed MATE too, and I mainly use it. MATE is really GNOME 2, I love Linux again thanks to it plus the Ubutu Human theme. You c...

And what about MATE? There won't be MATE on Mint 15? Oh, hell.

Re: Hello from Czech Republic

Yes, Linux Mint is exciting specially if you come from Ubuntu -of course if you didn't like Unity.
I really like the Czech Republic (Ceská Republiká?) and the Czech language, it's on my To-Learn list alongside with Polish :)

Re: Just switched to Mint.

Definitely, Linux Mint is a great place to start with Linux...

Or to stay. I'm not very newbie on Linux, I hopped (changed my Linux distro each... 3 days?) but I came back to Linux Mint, which is mainly an updated version of where I started (Ubuntu, before the Unity drama).

Welcome to the forums and to Linux Mint!
Having people of all the places is amazing. I'm from Catalonia -oh, it's inside Spain but perhaps we'd be better alone :P

I felt a bit like «now all the Linux distros will convert to Mac-like» and thought to abandon Linux but... Here comes Linux Mint to save all the Gnome 2 lovers!

I also used to hop a lot... But Mint is the cure to my «hopping disease»!
I recommend you upgrading to Mint 14 (fresh install is better) XFCE if you can/want. Mint doesn't break their new releases as some other distros do :)

There're also some young ones, like that featured developer (I don't remember his name) who was 13! I'm actually 14, but some people says I don't act as a 14-aged person...

I'm afraid about Mint's future

Hi! First of all, you may know I'm a Mint lover. It made me stop distro hopping, so congratulations and thankyous to all the developers and other members of the team. But that splendidness and beautiness is what afraids me... Like I was in love with Ubuntu 11.04 (with Gnome Classic) and then they re...

cheers mates! :D I'm really enjoying this revision of my machine. I'm not a super power user (more mild advanced) but I am content with this incarnation! Everything works well out of the box. I only had a few issues with the 'Upload manager' not conneting to my ancient ftp server but I switched to ...

Re: Hello everyone

Indeed, since Ubuntu changed its UI to that «modern» Unity, lots of users like me came to Linux Mint, where there's MATE (an updated fork of GNOME 2) and Cinnamon (Gnome 3 with the appearance of Gnome 2).
I hope you have a nice time here, and feel free to ask everything! :)

Re: Moved from Ubuntu 10.10 to Mint - Hi!

Yes, Ubuntu has changed its user interface to Unity -a more newer and sometimes laggy shell for Gnome 3. Lots of users -just like me- came to Linux Mint, because with its Cinnamon shell, which is Gnome 3 with the look of the old Gnome 2, and MATE, which is an updated version of Gnome 2, it makes the...

In my opinion, Mint lets you focus on your work and forget the Gnome 3 drama, whether you use Cinnamon or MATE.

Re: Installing cinnamon alongside Mate?

On a Cinnamon installation, you can easily install MATE using this command: $ sudo apt-get install mint-meta-mate
If you see any duplicated apps, you can edit their .desktop files. For example, if you want XChat to be shown ony on Cinnamon, run:
$ gksudo gedit /usr/share/applications...
