Thanks! The local-gen command worked like a charm. No more odd warnings!

Re: All Linuxmint Desktop Screenshots - January 2013

I officially stopped distro hopping. It's my new year's proposal :) At the moment I'm at an old Linux Mint 12 LiveCD with MGSE, removing my hopping distributions with GParted. It remembers me the first time I tried mind. I didn't like MGSE, but now I love it! Although I obviously will still use Cinn...

Re: Desktop Screenshots Thread - December 2012

Ok new setup with Mint KDE 14, last one for today. :D Theme Info: http://mmesantos1.deviantart.com/#/d5ppzb8 http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2012/364/5/8/kde_slave_and_sands_in_time_by_mmesantos1-d5ppzb8.png Cool again! I think that this black-ish theme is much better than the other grey-ish one :)

Re: How to delete Linux Mint installation?

You could remove both partitions with a LiveCD like GParted, and then create one NTFS partition with the free space. Then you should be able to install Windows there.

Re: Making jump from windows 7 to Linux Mint 14 full-time

Thanks that is a huge help! I saw some posts about 32 bit programs not working on 64 bit linux...is this so, and does it limit the offerings by very much? I am not sure exactly how many programs I run right now that are actually 32 bit as they are compatible on windows. Although I have a feeling th...

Re: Making jump from windows 7 to Linux Mint 14 full-time

I just can answer some questions... Should I use 64-bit? Yes, if you have more than 3GB of RAM. Will xampp work? Yes. Although on Linux it's called lampp. On 64-bit systems, it won't work by default. But installing ia32-libs , which are some useful 32-bit libraries, will make it work. You can see it...

Re: Desktop Screenshots Thread - December 2012

I'm back to Linux Mint Nadia Cinnamon, after a bit of sillyness with Xubuntu. I finally preffer Cinnamon to XFCE, it's better and a bit lightweight too :D Now I reinstalled Mint, the 64 bit version, and it's awesome, of course. I got the wallpaper here . The cat is like Mint, which arrives again to ...

It does...check the package manager and you'll find Unity 6.10.
Oh I know, I meant a Unity spin, like "Uniminty" :P

Re: What are your top tips for a Newbie?

I suggest a thing which may be a bit radical, but it's what I did and I'm so happy with Linux. Just use the Patented Three Steps to be a Linuxer® * (:P) by Catbuntu! Uninstall Windows. Yes! While installing Linux, don't create a new partition for living alongside with Windows. Just delete its parti...

Re: No sound with headphones

I had the same problem, until I found a solution. Perhaps it only works for my soundcard, but anyway, that's what I did. Basically edit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf with this command: $ gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf And add this line to the bottom: options snd-hda-intel model=auto po...

Re: Example for alternative way better than recommended one

I installed rednotebook via the software manager and it didn't budge, when I clicked the rednotebook in the start menu. Then I got to the website of rednotebook and read that you only have to type 3 commands into the terminal to get some PPA and the program runs fine after that. If I read correctly...
