Re: Samsung printer problem

That is a very basic printer and should not require an extra driver install. System can see it is there and will print to it. Check the printer options under "policies" and make sure it is enabled. Box should be checked. Should you choose to install the manufacturer driver then extract the containin...

Re: Firewire and import mini dv tapes

It is odd the system can see the 1394 card, fw0 device was created but Kino does not see the camera. Confirm the camera is in playback mode and you are on the capture screen in Kino (launches on edit screen). Possible the 1394 chipset although recognized is not supported or does not support the need...

Re: Firewire and import mini dv tapes

Kino to import the tapes via firewire from the camera. Been using it for 15 years and it works great. No longer maintained but no issues on my Ryzen 3700x Mint 19.3 desktop.

Re: Installing Mint 19.3 on Raid 5

I did a lot of reading then fired up a couple multi drive VM's to see what would happen. Creating the arrays goes smooth enough but grub cannot be installed on mdadm software raid. I read several posts that said it is possible but none that had actually done it. Tried installing grub manually but th...

Re: Installing Mint 19.3 on Raid 5

I admit I have never installed Mint to boot from RAID of any type but do have Mint systems with RAID5 AND RAID6 storage arrays. These though are set up with hardware RAID devices. You say fake RAID which I assume is some sort of onboard sudo controller but would like to know more about the hardware ...

Re: Home networking wifi mint 19.2/3

I was curious to see if there is simply a software limitation to this so I set up my laptop and desktop with USB Ethernet adapters to try it out. I manually set all interface IP's, subnets, gateways and routes needed to make traffic flow in both directions. It worked, sort of. I can ping the laptop ...

Re: Home networking wifi mint 19.2/3

enp3s0 is your wired connection. You need to configure it, not delete it. Wireless should remain on DHCP or whatever connected address it had. What is shown in the link enables the wired connection then sets a static address xxx.xxx.xxx.1 and forwarding. Lastly it sets the wireless to route traffic ...

Re: LM19.3 no HDMI signal

The port or driver may not support hot plugging. Try plugging in with laptop completely powered off. Make sure the external screen is on and boot it up. This solved the same issue on my Chromebook running Galluim. For the audio issue, this can usually be fixed by manually selecting the HDMI audio un...

Re: Help chosing budget laptop for Mint

I bought a Lenovo 14w brand new direct from Lenovo for $130 US (on sale). Mint 19.3 installs with zero issues and everything works. 10-14 hours of battery life depending on how I use it. Also have a Lenovo ideapad 720s ($600) and ideapad 330($300) both with Mint 19.3 running perfectly. inxi -F for t...

Re: Home networking wifi mint 19.2/3

Normally this is reverse of what the connections are meant to do. Sharing internet from Ethernet to wireless is a built in function. You are talking about creating a wireless bridge. It is possible and I will direct you to an external link to set it up. The network device names and subnets will need...

Re: New here will dive in

Read the Lenovo 14w thread through. The issue was the 4.15 kernel in the 19.2 ISO. This was resolved by the 19.3 ISO which has the 5.0 kernel. I installed 19.3 on my 14w and it works flawlessly.

Re: Share files between Linux Mint

Why not use native SSH? Just go to folder you want to share and set up the share options. Then go to the other PC and access via your file manager natively. Should show up under the network tab. Click on it, fill in user/password and it will mount.

Re: Did you expect that you'll use Linux?!

Well, going to show my age with this one. Started out using Mandrake Move to recover files from crashed out Windows systems many moons ago in a galaxy far, far away. This hooked me into Linux where I started experimenting with Ubuntu, Debian, Knoppix and anything else I could get my hands on. Starte...

19.3 is releasing with kernel 5.0 so it will include the same driver for the eMMC. Should work just fine.

Re: Oracle VM

You have to remove VirtualBox that was installed from the repos to install the .deb. Open package manager and search VirtualBox. Select it for removal and apply changes. Once complete, close package manager and install with the .deb.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad 330S 15ARR not loading Mint 19.1

It is completely possible. I have Mint 19.2 installed on my 330s and 720s, both Ryzen 5. Both installed in place of Winwoes in UEFI mode without issue. After install both 720s is fully functional. Had to update to kernel 5.0.0 for the 330s touchpad to function. The USB drive must be selected to boot...

Re: No graphic acceleration in win7 host

Installing tools simply will not remove, move or damage the VM in any way. If the VM is not accessible or damaged the machine was moved or machine files were altered or corrupted somehow. If you must, delete the old ,broken VM and install anew then install tools.

Re: No graphic acceleration in win7 host

First, to be clear; Win7 is the guest and Mint is the host? If this is the case the host graphics card GT710 won't matter to the guest. Also you mention having the geforce driver installed. Guessing this is on the Mint host. If on the guest Win7 it will not work. Virtualbox has no native way of pass...
