Re: Stop Screen Freeze Nvidia Graphics

Strange for sure. I suppose you could install 32 bit libraries to see if it helps. Can't really hurt, then try the install again.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install ia32-libs

Re: Stop Screen Freeze Nvidia Graphics

When using the official drivers, first remove any PPA and uninstall any drivers currently installed for the device. Hopefully the following will get you running with better performance. 1. Go to update manager and blacklist the nvidia nouveau drivers. 2 . Remove or disable display driver PPA if inst...

Re: Stop Screen Freeze Nvidia Graphics

Have you considered installing the latest official driver from Nvidia? I use official drivers on my RTX2080, GTX1060 and SLI GTX960's. None have any issues at all regardless of load including running Ark Survival for eight hours straight without a hiccup. That said, your GPU is getting pretty toasty...

Re: Networking advice please

Writing this under the assumption you are talking about network shares. Once you have the NAS set up just open Nemo and go to File->Connect to server. Fill in the type (ssh, ftp, windows share, etc.) IP, share name and user/password. You can also click on Network in the Nemo left pane to browse netw...

Re: building a home server

File server almost anything can be used. All you need is the space to store the files which you have a plan for. Question is the streaming part. If simply serving the files over the network no big deal; but if you are look to perform real-time transcoding then hardware will matter much more. I admin...

Re: Do I Reall Need A VPN on Linux Mint

For my Linux installations over the years, I've never used a VPN - never had a need to do so. I've never encrypted any partition or drive for that matter, either. I use good computing practices when online, I minimize use of sudo and do not use root unless absolutely necessary (and only for the bri...

Re: Problems With Display on a Projector

You can use HDMI for video and the audio out for audio. Plug in the HDMI and audio cable. Open sound settings then change sound output from HDMI to the other audio output you want to use.

Re: can you REALLY run a LTS Mint from day 1 to EOL (end of life) without reinstalling?

Absolutely. Release to EOL and so much further. My main desktop install has moved between three different board/CPU upgrades and many version updates. Started at Linux Mint 13 and is now running Linux Mint 19.2. All run through upgrades, never fresh install. Highly customized install at this point. ...

Re: Linux mint won't install on new laptop

System will work from ISO since this does not require writing to the internal drive. But as the OP mentioned the install fails with sector errors. This is because the kernel does not have good drivers for the eMMC chip. It will boot and can be used live. You can view and attempt changes to the eMMC....

Re: Linux mint won't install on new laptop

The Kernel on the Linux Mint ISO is too old to support the eMMC chip. I have the same Lenovo 14w laptop and tried numerous times to install Mint. Same error flooded the screen when booting from USB. Block xxx eMMC cannot be read. I was able to get it to boot up but manipulating the drive failed ever...

Re: New mint install stuck at 800x600 res (AMD Vega 8)

If you are running on the kernel installed with ISO, I believe 4.15, it will have to be updated. Open update manager -> view -> Linux kernels. Select one of the 5.0 or 5.3 kernels and reboot.

Re: Video driver issues

I don't see any issues with the listed hardware. Try rolling your kernel back to 5.0.x and testing to see if this fixes any of the issues. Open the update manager then go to the kernel manager. Install one of the 5.0 kernels and reboot. On boot, select the lower kernel to boot from. Test it out and ...

Re: Lenovo Laptop

I would upgrade the kernel to version 5.0, or even 5.3 That fixed my issues with wifi and touchpad. Agree here. All of mine need kernel 5.x.x for trackpad functionality. Wifi has not been an issue at all, nor has graphics on any of three AMD APU's Ryzen5, Ryzen3 and 7th Gen A6).. This may also be b...

Re: Noah's Ark Laptop with Intermittent wifi

Possible the wifi card is having a hard time of it selecting between the B and G bands. Go into the settings for your wifi connection on the laptop and change the band selection from auto to G only. Give it a try and see if the connection still breaks or keeps a solid connection.
