Re: Ryzen 3700X and Kernel 5.3

But I was updating all night! Then the cows came home and told me to stop.. Perhaps some day we will get sensors but in all honesty it really doesn't matter to me. BIOS controls my CPU fan and that is all I really need.

Re: Ryzen 3700X and Kernel 5.3

I have a 3700x on a MSI x470 motherboard. No sensors detected on Kernel 4.15.0-65. I updated to 5.30-19 and system failed to boot so I went backward to 5.0.0-32 and no sensors are detected.

Re: asus tp203n no hd only 32gb emmc - need linux via usb

I recommend the same steps I used to install GalliumOS on my Samsung Chomebook 3. The CB3 has only 16GB emmc so I used a 128GB micro SD for expanding storage. Make root partition ( / ) the internal emmc and use the SD or USB for home partition ( /home ). Works well enough. Overall computing satisfac...

eager learning, the RTX2080 is PCIe in my desktop as is the 1TB NVMe. The Lenovo laptop referenced (typing on this now) has a Ryzen 5 2500U APU. Graphics is Radeon Vega 8. Laptop also has a 512GB NVMe. This Lenovo laptop is absolutely amazing. Extremely fast and about 10 hours battery life in an alu...

I have Mint 19.2 on my Lenovo laptop and on this desktop. Laptop runs a Ryzen 5 2500U (Vega-8) with zero issues. Desktop runs a 3700x with zero issues. Laptop kernel 5.xx and 4.15.0-65 on desktop. Should be fine.

Re: LM Cinnamon 19.2 takes 90s to shutdown - 17.3 immediate

I had this same issue on a newer Lenovo laptop. It was because of the current kernel. I rolled back one minor version and issue has been resolved. Give it a go. Kernel can be viewed/installed and removed from the update manager. By default you should have at least two or three installed at any given...

Re: m.2 or linux broke today

This looks to be an encryption error looking at the initial post. Could be BIOS setting was changed or Windwoes wrote something to UEFI boot partition breaking it. Secure boot was disabled before this happened or after this happened? Have you tried testing the drive to see if perhaps the hardware ha...

Re: Hi teacher fighting to get Linux into schools

Welcome to Linux Mint and to the Linux Mint forums! Linux in school is an outstanding idea and great tool for kids to use. I have used many Linux Distributions over the years with Mint being my favorite by far for daily use. I have two daughters which started using Linux Mint at the ages of five and...

Re: Dieing laptop problem

Boot from a live CD/USB and you will see the laptop drive in your file manager once in the live environment. Click on the drive and it will mount. Copy any data you want to an external you would also have plugged in via USB.

... I have well over 50 'nix machines with 2GB to 256GB RAM and not one has a swap. maybe my OCD is kicking in , or maybe i'm just irritated at people abbreviating when there should be none. do you not have the time to spell out linux or is your computer missing some keys, or are you typing on a ph...

Re: list of packages that can be uninstalled

Don't know about dumping it all for a couple extra gigabytes. If this is the case I agree with maybe starting with a distro that is lean/bare by default and not a full environment like Mint. When removing any program don't forget to follow up with sudo apt autoremove to clean up any junk left behind...

Re: reformatting from NTFS to Ext4

Open gparted and select the drive. You should see " /dev/sd# " with # being b or c or d or so on. Next to this will be current filesystem (ntfs), drive size, used and unused space. Right click selecting "Format to" the select the filesystem you want ext4. Once selected hit the check mark at the top ...

Simple answer is HECKIN YES! I have over 20 OS and utilities on a 128GB USB Flash drive using MultiSystem. Find them here --> http://liveusb.info/multisystem/depot/dists/all/main/binary-amd64/ You need the gtkdialog for your system x86/AMD64 and the latest MultiSystem .deb to install. Here is a samp...

I have a Lenovo Ideapad 720S. Bought it new a year ago from Lenovo. $550 US. Ryzen 5 2600, 8GB RAM and 512 VNMe, aluminum, beautiful display, USB C charging and so on. Installed Mint the day I received it and everything works flawlessly.

Re: Buying New Laptop – Video Editing

I agree no special graphic card should be needed. I have a new Lenovo Ideapad 720S-13ARR that i immediately installed Mint 19 Cinnamon on. Did not cost much, UEFI, has a Ryzen 5 2500U processor, 8GB RAM and 500GB NVMe drive. Runs extremely smooth and has enough power to edit/encode video fairly qui...
