Re: Buying New Laptop – Video Editing

I bought it for $550 from Lenovo. Looks like they no longer sell on there, newer model came out. Look on Lenovo site and it will direct you to the newer model.

Re: Buying New Laptop – Video Editing

I agree no special graphic card should be needed. I have a new Lenovo Ideapad 720S-13ARR that i immediately installed Mint 19 Cinnamon on. Did not cost much, UEFI, has a Ryzen 5 2500U processor, 8GB RAM and 500GB NVMe drive. Runs extremely smooth and has enough power to edit/encode video fairly quic...

Re: Unexplained Mouse Activity?

My guess would still be the mouse pad. Try to turn it upside down when watching videos to see if the issue stops. If it does, the mouse pad surface is the issue.

Re: Cinnamon goes into fallback mode when turned on

i have indeed used the driver manager, and also tried manually installing a graphics driver because the driver manager didn't fix the problem. I cant install the latest driver for my graphics card on my windows too. when using driver manager it says "No proprietary drivers are in use", i looked up ...

Re: How to reduce boot up time?

I am unsure if the call can be something other than a whole number. Not tried 0 either and have no idea what each would result in. I am sure the timer is being used because you can cancel and/or delay it by key press. As I understand your post, bypassing the timer/boot menu with key press results in...

Re: Cinnamon goes into fallback mode when turned on

Issue is assuredly the graphics driver. Have you used Driver Manager in Mint to check the driver version and for updates? I suggest this first to find a resolution. Should populate with current Gallium driver in use and show a recommended one (vendor driver). I use a RTX2080 and even before only use...

Re: Cell Phone Compatibility?

Using a Pixel, Pixel2, Pixel2 XL and Pixel3 (All Android 10) on my Mint machines. Connect USB and the internal storage pops right up. No issues at all. For pictures specifically you could use shotwell to import and sync. Also using scrcpy when connected via USB to display the phone screen on my desk...

Re: Shotwell problem

Does the disk show mounted in nemo? If not mounted then no program will be able to access it. If external unplug and plug back it, disk will automount. If internal go to nemo and click on the drive. Drive will mount and get an eject icon next to it. Access with program. You can add an internal disk ...

Re: How to reduce boot up time?

You've already answered the question though. Pressing enter on the boot menu cancels the timer and boots the system. You need to reduce the timer number in /etc/default/grub. Change GRUB_TIMEOUT=10 to 2 or 3 or whatever. Beware though, this will reduce the time the menu shows for selection. Two seco...

Re: Do I bother Switching to UEFI from Legacy for New Laptop?

I say don't bother. I have an install that has moved between two different board/CPU upgrades and countless version updates. Think it started at 13 and is now 19.2. Never a fresh install and still in BIOS mode. Highly customized install at this point. Last change from SSD to NVMe. System still perfo...

Re: Non-Windows laptops?

I also have Mint running on an Acer C720, with no problems, other than bluetooth is a bit complicated to get working properly. It took some googling, and following instructions, was a bit of a project, but it works. Suppose it was the build I used (Coolstar) but BT has not been an issue at all. Als...

Re: Non-Windows laptops?

I have an Acer c720 with Mint 17.3 that has the Chrome keyboard and mouse firmware so both work great. Replaced the 16GB SSD with a 128GB SSD in that one. Also have a Samsung Chromebook 3 running Gallium 2.1. This entire distro is made for Chromebooks with the special keyboard and mouse firmware. No...

Re: Selecting the chosen OS from the Live USB doesn't load a

Booting from a live DVD successfully would rule out USB being the issue. Could do a DVD install and then sort the USB issue. I have had a system or two that simply would not successfully boot from USB. I try to only do USB installs and have 11 OS's on my USB drive to facilitate that want. Not sure i...

Re: Selecting the chosen OS from the Live USB doesn't load a

I would first make sure you are plugged into a USB 2 port and not USB 3. When you boot the USB on another computer does it boot to the live desktop? Verify the BIOS settings for UEFI and USB are correct. If booting using the boot menu select the drive it shows on the USB device and not the physical ...

wlan0 has 2 IP's

I noticed during a scan of my network and am not sure when this started but my laptop, Mint 17.2 has 2 local IP's for wlan0. Both are active on the network and ping. IFCONFIG shows .130 for wlan0 but infopanel shows .88 (not in my dhcp range) for wlan0. I have no idea where the address is coming fro...

Re: Prioritizing Internet Connections

You can go into Network Manager and edit the wired connection. Under IPv4 select the "Routes" button and check the box "Use this connection only for resources on its network" and/or set metric like you did in 8. Close all and restart networking or restart system.

Re: Am I expecting to much Mint Mate 15 Old PC

You must have a driver issue. I run Mint 15 Mate on my Samsung N150 netbook, since release [Atom n450 single core, 2GB RAM, some crappy intel video chipset]. I can watch fullscreen youtube up to 720p and 720p mkv's. No issues whatsoever. At this point I recommend reinstalling fresh using Mint with M...
