Following up my previous post, given there are so many versions of Mint now, it's hard to identify regular Gnome Mint when I recommend it to a friend. I'm not complaining about the multiple versions, just that it's difficult to identify the original Mint among the others. I mean, I can identify it, ...

I was afraid you would ask that. It's been a while since I installed Mint Gnome. I know you can change the liveCD to boot-up in verbose mode by pressing F6 at the boot menu, and then editing the boot command by replacing "quiet" with "verbose", but I dont recall how to do a verbose install, if it ca...

What are you experiencing with the Mint LiveCD? Do you have a similar stall out when running live CD? Boot the liveCD in verbose mode and report what is going on at the point of stalling. Or, install Mint in verbose mode and report what is going on at the point where installation fails. Can you say ...

Try burning to another medium, that is, CD-R instead of CD-RW. Hang in there.

I had a similar problem once. My installation went to around 60%, then it stalled out. It was an older laptop with a non-compliant CDROM which was also kinda flaky. I believe that during the first part of the installation, the CDROM was seen as a generic device, but at some point specific drivers we...

384 MB ram usage

I'm not complaining, I just want to understand. When exactly did Mint become so resource intensive? I don't recall earlier versions of Mint requiring 512 MB of ram to run the LiveCD. I run 'free' command on Mint Cassandra and it shows ram usage at 384 MB. What is running that causes that level of ra...

OK, I was short on RAM, the computer needed 512MB. I ran the command "free" on my Mint installation, and it was using something like 384MB ram, so maybe I could get away with 3 sticks of 128MB ram. But based on this computer, I would say, yes, you need 512MB RAM to install Mint Cassandra. Question i...

Agree that the computer could use more RAM, but I think this is not the underlying problem. The symptoms I wish to report are a sluggishness that borders on freezing up, mouse click lags measured in minutes. I have Mint 3.0 installed on another Asus box, 1000 MHz Athlon, [512MB] SDRAM, similar specs...

slow liveCD, cant install Mint 3.0

I have used this live CD to install Mint on another computer, so the problem is probably not the fault of the medium. The liveCD is very slow to boot to desktop, with much lag. Even with great patience it is close to impossible to install Mint when the liveCD is so sluggish. Here is an error message...

"Fresh, Friendly, Free" sounds pretty good to me If you check the first few posts in this thread, you will see that the use of consecutive fricatives ("fr") was criticized, and acknowledged as something to avoid. I repeat that "fresh" is a common advertising word that says very little. If memory se...

Running the Sabayon live CD or DVD is fun and instructive, but I would never take the trouble to install Sabayon because I know what's underneath. (Gentoo)

3. Anaconda is a very slow installer. Anaconda is the only installer Red Hat has used. I just wiped CentOS 5 off my hard drive after three hours of testing because Anaconda is pathetically slow. PCLOS 2007 is an awesome distro. KDE's "Icestorm" desktop background suits it well. Playing flash files ...

I was thinking that for an installation of Cassandra Lite, one could select applications from the itemized lists available through Automatix to customize a barebones system according to ones tastes, or according to the legal requirements of one's country. If I can accomplish this with Mint resources...

Automatix2 for Cassandra Lite

If I install Cassandra Lite, can I use Automatix2 to make the system more complete and functional? Which instructions do I follow for installing Automatix2, the instructions for Ubuntu Feisty 7.04? Maybe you can arrange with arnieboy to have a forum section dedicated to Linux Mint. http://www.getaut...

Um, youre thinking of an after-dinner breath mint, arent you? Freshens your breath. What's uniquely fresh about LinuxMint? IMO fresh doesnt uniquely describe Linux Mint. And as a secondary modifier, doesnt say much. I like "the elegance of freedom", but that's four words :( Not sure it describes LIn...

I still think Cassandra Green is washed out, too grayish, too drab. (Gray = natural consequence of mixing green and blue?) It's only important because Cassandra Green is the default background. It's fine as an option, but I think it makes a dull first impression. Bianca Green is less gray, less drab...

Bianca Blue is my favorite background. In review, I can see the parallel between Bianca Green and Cassandra Green. However, Bianca Blue doesn't have the darker blue of Cassandra Blue. So maybe Cassandra Blue could lighten up a bit as well. I guess Cassandra Green aint so bad, just take some getting ...
