Re: Change default window size when opened

Do you have maximus (check in synaptic) or the maximus applet (check in Cinnamon settings) installed? If so remove/disable it. Nope. At least not explicitly. Is it installed by default? ("Default" of the distribution package maintainer? ) My installs are always pure stock installs with the f...

Re: Mint Box links stale?

Don't remove it, update it! We want people to have an opportunity to do things to help support Mint. BTW, does Mint's site generate "pay-by-click" ad revenue? I hope so, because though I may not need hosting in the UK, nor be able to afford the few hundred for the latest Mint box, I like to do some ...

Re: Mint Box links stale?

Thanks!

I guess the point I was trying to make is that one of the pop-up ads on the site - for the Mint Box - takes you down the rabbit hole to somewhere that doesn't help.

How do I/we go about getting it fixed?

So, remind me what that workaround is? (Aside from telling Firefox to bugger off...)

Re: Web site enhancement: Enable "auto-save" while creating a topic or reply

Good point, though I don't have satellite Internet. It's not unusual for me to have multiple tabs open especially if I need to reference/quote something else. Maybe there's an undocumented "feature" in Firefox where if you have multiple tabs open, at least two go to the same site, the afternoon is w...

Re: Mate 18.3: Fixed size windows do not rescale or adapt to insufficient screen area

Could it be a sticky key or some such? e.g. Right Ctrl key is a sticker, then when pressing Alt you have a key combo to jump window titlebar to mouse location, is what I'm dreaming up lol, what else might make a window jump to mouse like that? I don't think it's as simple as that. If I had a sticky...

Re: Web site enhancement: Enable "auto-save" while creating a topic or reply

Greetings! I use both chrome and Firefox, and often I have been saved by the "back" button as you suggest. However, about 30-or-so percent of the time something happens that appears to obliterate this. This has happened on multiple systems with different operating systems - the only common factors b...

Web site enhancement: Enable "auto-save" while creating a topic or reply

Greetings! Issue : When writing anything on this site, certain glitches or interruptions can cause the page to vanish or be replaced by something else. The result is often the loss of the material you were trying to create. ( i.e. Your internet connection "blinks", you press the control key instead ...

Re: is MATE lighter than Cinnamon?

It depends. On my laptop with it's fewer available resources, MATE most definitely runs well and Cinnamon is totally unhappy. Based on the experience of others, it's probably a point where hardware limitations become significant enough. My two centavos here: I am translating the intent of this ques...

Re: Web Site Enhancement: Reduce sensitivity of "common words" filter

The forum search is useless and many have noticed, although no change has ever been implemented. I'm not sure I'd be that critical, especially since most fora don't, and can't, afford the horsepower or manpower to duplicate sites like Google or Dogpile. I am equally sure that the 90/10 rule applies...

Web Site Enhancement: Reduce sensitivity of "common words" filter

Issue: When conducting a search on these fora, the search engine often selects and throws away words that are essential elements of the query because they are "common words". A specific example in point: Today I am experiencing a problem with certain windows not respecting the screen boundaries and ...

Mint 19 bug? - Drive not cleanly unmounted - Windows not shut down properly

Greetings! I just downloaded the most recent Mint 19 downloads (Cinnamon and MATE, both 32 and 64 bit) as of this instant date (August 2nd, 2018) and I have encountered what may be a boot bug. System: Win7 Professional 64 bit dual boot with Mint 18.2 (64 bit, I think) After properly shutting down Wi...

Re: [Solved] What happened to the Mint 19 download checksums?

No worries, happens to the best of us. I'm known for not finding things in my own fridge. My wife complains about the same thing. I made the mistake of leaving one of my W.E.B. (Griffith?) " Semper Fi! " books out and my wife found it. She found some of the salty quarter-deck comments that al...

For Cinnamon, the links are near the bottom of this page: https://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=3597 Like I said, my eyeglasses need cleaning! Seriously - I remember the checksums being at the top of the page, before the list of release platforms and mirrors. Not sure, but didn't they redesign the download...

[Solved] What happened to the Mint 19 download checksums?

Greetings! First and foremost - I do not wish to complain about the distributions. I am amazed at all the hard work Clem and everyone else puts in to make them happen. Don't I wish.

I sent them links to a number of local stores that sell nice refurbs for a couple of hundred dollars (US) and these guys don't want to do it.
