Re: Making all media files open with VLC

For some reason, that only lets me choose the music player. On the Multimedia tab, there is just one option for "Multimedia player" and I have to choose between rhythmbox or totem. This seems very limited. Unless I'm supposed to select totem from the drop down menu and then enter a custom command? I...

Making all media files open with VLC

The video players that come with Linux Mint seem to have color and frame rate issues, so I've downloaded the good old VLC media player. Now, how do I make this program the default media player? I found a guide to make it automatically play DVDs, so that part's done. And I know I'm able to right clic...

Re: Display/standby issues.

Okay, here's what happened. When I added driver "intel" everything was the same as before, with the shaky display from standby and all. But when I added driver "i810", even though it's a 20" screen with a 1680 by 1050 display, the resolution changed to 1600 by 1200 without an option for the correct ...

Re: Firfox google search in Linux Mint

Ah, I understand. The person I'm setting up Linux Mint for, though, would probably get confused or worried or annoyed if there is something different (he's very used to everything being just the way it is in Windows and it's work enough getting him used to opening OpenOffice.org, the different Appli...

Re: Display/standby issues.

Thank you. I'll check it out and see the result. By the way, under the device section I recall from a previous experience that there was only one line in there, but I'm not sure if it said i810 or intel or something different. But is the line supposed to say Driver = "intel" or is there supposed to ...

Firfox google search in Linux Mint

Why is it that the Google search box in Firefox goes to a Linux Mint Google search page rather than a flat-out search page? And how do I make it like normal?

Display/standby issues.

Hi whenever I put my computer into sleep it wakes up right away and then the display starts jumping to the side and back again until I restart the computer. Any help? It's the main version of Linux Mint 5 R1.

Re: Display and standby problems

Um, hello? Guy with a crazy screen problem here? Anyone have any answers?

Someone on an Ubuntu IRC said to "cat /etc/apt/sources.list and paste to paste.ubuntu.com then give us the url" but I don't know what that means or how to do it.

Display and standby problems

Okay I've got Linux Mint 5 (the main version, R1) running dual-boot with XP on an HP Pavilion desktop (onboard graphics) and an Acer monitor (20"). Now my problem is that whenever I try to put Linux in sleep/standby, it wakes up as soon as it falls asleep, and the display gets all weird -- like the ...
