Re: After 13 to 14 update, can't access SOME internet

First place I would check is your DNS settings. Try a ping to www.google.com and see if it resolves it to an ip address.

Re: Printer Driver

Alot of the Dell printers are manufactured by Lexmark. Lexmark printers are not supported in linux as a rule. I did look at some documentation on this printer and it doesnt state (like it does others) if its made by lexmark but I suspect it is. Therefore, I would have to say this printer is not supp...

Re: Alternative to DVDfab

By backing up a DVD Iam assuming its a DVD movie. Doesnt really matter but here is how I do it: Pop your DVD into the drive, Open up a terminal window, Use the 'dd' command to make an image of the dvd in question - dd if=/dev/sr0 of=/home/<user>/mydvd.img Takes a little while but will produce a bit-...

Re: Help with Reboot

Most likely you have some corruption in the file system. This can be fixed kinda easy following the below steps: 1. Boot from your mint disk to its desktop. 2. Open up a terminal window and figure out what partitions everything is on. Command: "sudo fdisk -L (or lower case l I dont remember right no...

Re: Cannot boot Windows 7 + Mint 15, grub error

Hello, I looked at your paste2 code and if you look at line numbers 49 thru 60 your answer is there. To me it appears you are trying to install your bootloader for mint in the extended partition. This will never work. If you have room on /dev/sda I would recommend shrinking the windows system partit...

Re: Richard Stallman on Ubuntu spying

Checked Ubuntu Server 12.05 -- Nope. Not there.
Checked Mint 14 -- Nope not there either.

Therefore, Im happy. I like the codecs being added. I dont really see the codecs as evil. I just see them as icing on the cake.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Richard Stallman on Ubuntu spying

This blog from Richard Stallman ( http://www.fsf.org/blogs/rms/ubuntu-spyware-what-to-do ) talks about the evil of ubuntu. I certainly understand his point of view and agree with it. Gee, Thats why Im here basically. But I do have a question beyond that. My question is, Does the spying code run on a...

DNS - Resolv.conf

I realize that you can go into control panel / network and change the DNS settings. However, Normally Im used to /etc/resolv.conf handling the DNS entries. Although my install of Mint14 is working fine Iam curious why there are no entries in /etc/resolv.conf ?? Where does Mint14 store the DNS entrie...
