Re: Resseting authentification password gone terribly bad

I wish you asked for help earlier :( I'm sorry to say but I think you won't be able to decrypt your files. With home directory encryption you must only change the account password while logged in to it and on the desktop. The password wraps the encryption passphrase and when the password is changed ...

Re: Saving terminal settings after a logout

When you log out your session ends. That closes any user apps, like your terminal. Don't log out if you want to keep user apps running. If you're logged in to a server on your terminal you can use screen or tmux, which will let you keep the shell session on the server and you can reattach again to i...

Probleem met keyboard layout misschien? Nederlandse indeling is anders dan Engelse.

Type je wachtwoord eens waar je kan zien wat je typt. B.v. in de text editor (Xed).

They are paths inside the dconf database. They're not paths on your filesystem.

Maybe one should take look "behind the curtains" before blaming that poor guy:
You're mixing up who is who. Jia Tan has been the lead maintainer for the past 2 years. He's the one that put the malware in xz.

I think so. Check that the line you changed in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/official-package-repositories.list looks like the below:

Code: Select all

It is Costa Brava according to filename on the photographer's website: https://aurelm.com/wp-content/uploads/Gallery-Costa-Brava-Sunrise-01.jpg. So you're right it looks like. The photographer has also taken landscape photos in Bulgaria. There must have been some mix-up that wasn't caught during the...

Re: How to update Mint Xfce selectively?

16270 /timeshift So almost half of your disk usage, 16 GB, is for system snapshots. Not surprising as you can see the OS directories (everything but /timeshift and /home) adds up to almost 14GB and Timeshift keeps multiple system snapshots (without duplicating files) so it will grow a bit over time...

Re: Need a version of working script for different app

You can use MPRIS D-Bus interface for this; https://specifications.freedesktop.org/mpris-spec/latest/. You don't need to write your own dbus-send commands, though you can, but you can use the playerctl command: https://github.com/altdesktop/playerctl. I think apt install playerctl to get it on Linux...

Re: What is your fan RPM? Quiz

450 RPM is low I think, at least for the 14cm fans I use. It's about 1/3 of max speed of these silent fans.

Laptops generally have smaller fans that thus have to run much faster to provide enough airflow.

Re: How to update Mint Xfce selectively?

"selectively updating" -- which security issues do you want to keep your system vulnerable to? Because most updates for system packages are to fix security issues. Only a few apps get full new releases through Update Manager: Firefox and Chromium to name the major two. But also these you s...

Re: What is your fan RPM? QUIZ

You're on a laptop I guess? On my desktop with a YT 1080p video running my CPU Tctl is 40°C (20°C above ambient) and the fan runs at 450 RPM. My GPU edge is 35°C and the fans run at 0 RPM.

Acceptable noise from fans is none. If I can hear the fans from 1m away it's a crap build.

Not a world of difference on my end but you could run them like this to exclude directories from the results:

Code: Select all

find /var/lib/flatpak ! -type d -links +1 | wc -l
find /timeshift/snapshots/2024-03-31_16-13-41/localhost/var/lib/flatpak ! -type d -links +1 | wc -l

Re: is it possible to make a script for a specific workspace?

You could after the sleep 60 line put [[ $(xdotool get_desktop) = "3" ]] || exit ; that makes the script exit if it's not on workspace 4, before going into another loop to change the picture again. But if you want to change the wallpaper back to what it was on workspace 1 when you go there...

Re: is it possible to make a script for a specific workspace?

Is that ChatGPT vomit again? xdotool get_desktop prints the current desktop, you don't need to get the active window to get the active desktop. Always use double brackets in Bash scripts. It avoids a ton of bugs. So we can do; if [[ $(xdotool get_desktop) = "0" ]]; then # Script for workst...
