Hello again, I replaced a cheap POS webcam with a Logitech C270,' The good: It is recognized by Mint and works with Cheese and gucview The bad; While it seems to work with Skype, the person calling cannot see any video. In the test audio and video section in Skype, The Webcam does not shoe up, inste...

Re: looking for a plug and play webcam

I made the classic mistake of buying a cheap POS on ebay. Works in Windows, but not in Mint. I did some more searching and have a Logitech C270 coming. This one has had some good reviews here on the forums. If it works when it gets here, I'll mark the topic solved.

Thanks for everything.

looking for a plug and play webcam [SOLVED]

I actually searched the forums and couldn't find a definitive answer. So, I'm looking for a usb webcam that will just work with LM 19.

Thanks in advance.

Solved: Purchased a Logitech C270. Plugged it in and it works!

Re: trying to mount samsung galaxy tab a

Forgot to add the result of lsusb:

lsusb

So it looks like the device is there. It actually shows up in the Computer icon as Samsung Android, but no files appear.

trying to mount samsung galaxy tab a

Recently got a Samsung Galaxy tab a 10.1 tablet. It works well and is really nice. I've been trying to use the file manager app to look at it, but no success. Earlier posts said to do this: sudo apt-get install mtp-tools mtpfs sudo apt-get install mtp-tools mtpfs but I get the error that mtp-tools c...

Re: Wireless adapter not seen in new Tara install [SOLVED]

Hi dman, I don't know what you mean by "canonical way to test the functionality of the wireless adapter". I just use the terminal command iwconfig to see the channel, dropped packets, and other information. There are a couple of apps you may wish to install via software manager, 1. "L...

Re: issues when trying to flash router firmware with dd-drt

Further readin on the dd-wrt website indicates that Internet Exploder is the preferred btowser to use if trying to do things via the web intertface. I'm not a fan of IE, and may just try to find a Linksys EA6350 1200AC routere that is already flashed. I'm no stranger to rftp. When working for an ISP...

Re: How to fix Thunar not having option to run scripts

Thanks for this info. I was having trouble getting Pale Moon browser to install from the .sh file, and the PPA method is an out dated version. Believe me, I am not trying to sound snarky or exude an "I'm smarter than you" attitude. Learning how to use some basic shell commands is always i...

Re: issues when trying to flash router firmware with dd-drt

First off it's not a trivial matter to flash your router with DD-WRT or Tomato or LEDE, etc etc. It's quite possible that you'll brick it. I'm sure you know this already though. I suggest reading everything that DD-WRT website tells you to read before you proceed any further. That being said. It so...

Re: issues when trying to flash router firmware with dd-drt

Yes, using cat5 into ethernet port1. I tound a WRTG router pre-loaded with DD-WRT firmware and purchased it. I really dislike closed source stuff. They think they've got you held in an unbrakable grip, but there is usually a way around it. Just wish more people would support open source (and not jus...

issues when trying to flash router firmware with dd-drt

I know that this may not be the best place to ask, but I'll give it a shot. I have a linksys EA6350 wireless router. Decided to flash the firmware with a DD-WRT file found on the dd-wrt website, linksys-ea6350-webflash.bin. When trying to flash the firmware, after 30 seconds or so, the process stops...

OK, I sprung for the one year subscription to PIA VPN. It was extremely easy to setup and launch. It just works. Now I'm thinking of flashing my Linksys EA6350 router using the DD-WRT file I found on the DD-WRT website (linksys-ea63500-webflash.bin. Just a bit apprehensive. I've flashed the firmware...

Re: Restart Function Stopped Working in Linux Mint 18 - Even Though No Changes Were Made to System

I like using the command line more than using gui stuff. Clarkson is closer to me, so I just used the following command in the terminal: wget http://mirror.clarkson.edu/linuxmint/iso/images/stable/19/linuxmint-19-mate-64bit-v2.isolarkson.edu/linuxmint/iso/images/stable/19/linuxmint-19-mate-64bit-v2....

Re: Restart Function Stopped Working in Linux Mint 18 - Even Though No Changes Were Made to System

Once you download an iso image, you can burn it to a DVD or usb stick and then boot into a live session. At that point, you can see if your computer is still acting up during the shutdown sequence. If it is still giving you the same problems, it may, indeed, (note the use of the Oxford comma there. ...

Damien, Thanks again for your comments. I felt like way too much of a newbie to come out and say it as clearly as you did -- so thank you for spelling it out. I have wasted a huge amount of time and experienced a tremendous amount of frustration -- even before I posted in the forum. And even after ...

Re: Best WiFi option for Linux Mint 19 desktop?

I recently bought a Panda Wireless PAU09 adapter from amazon. It is a USB unit with 2 external antennae, and I have been extremely pleased with it. It just works on Mint 19, plug and play. I also have to agree with Jeremy about a regular card in your desktop. USB occasionally exhibits certain vagari...

Just a quick question --> have you tried using the terminal and the command ;sudo reboot? I don't have anything else to offer, as others have added better advice than I have at this time. Good luck! I'm using a Toshiba Satellite 755 Laptop that is older than what your computer (2011), I truly hope y...

firejail issues

Hi all, I have used firejail for awhile, but at one point, using firejail for starting firefox didn't work well. Firefox would not load any pages. Re: Wifi drops regularly - Intel Wireless 7260

"What did
sudo sed -i 's/3/2/' /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/*
do?"

I believe it changes power management to off in /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf.

Changing the number 3 to 2 will make sure powermanagement is off after a reboot.
