Re: Using WINE

To make the .exe open correctly, associate "wine" as the program to launch when you "open" a .exe file, tho it should be done by wine install and you don't need it to do the below. Here's how to run irfanview as the default image viewer with image filename passed to it, which you...

Re: no menu, no -+ re-size window options, how to repair?

You didn't mention which GUI (Cinnamon, etc) you're using; try synaptic and "remove completely" whatever it is and reinstall it. (I normally use fluxbox and logged into Xfce to see if it still worked and was greeted with a blank screen, fixed by doing the above for Xfce. My custom settings...

Re: Linux won't install. (Some issues.)

Rather than just look at the hard disk, try gparted (from the live CD - probably called something like "disk utility" in the menus*) and check the disk and/or partitions (pretty self-explanatory); or, open a terminal and run $ fsck -l to get a list, then $ fsck /dev/whatever_from_above (*o...

"Is it possible to retrieve those files from Windows, as my system is a dual boot one?"

Check out Ext2Read, explore2fs or www.diskinternals.com/linux-reader/

"There's a cross on the user folder and I cant access files."

? That shouldn't happen.

kyocera K-R1 - connects, no internet. SOLVED

I know next to nothing about wireless except that it's always a PITA, and I don't know anything useful at all about modern phones. I'm using a Kyocera K-R1 wireless router - the computer sees the KR1 and connects OK, but there's no internet access. Using cables, everything works OK. I've gone thru t...

Re: Mouse not saving to clipboard/right-click pasting

Perhaps related: the copy buffer is emptied when you close the app you copied from, e.g.:
- Write something with gedit.
- Copy it.
- Close gedit.
- Try to paste into a browser comment - nothing to paste.

IIRC, windows doesn't do this.

Re: Reduce shutdown time

Mint 13 shuts down in about 3 seconds here. Mint 14 takes a few seconds longer (stock install, not optimized).

You might check your startup programs and remove the ones you don't need.
And/or try: Menu > Administration > Log File Viewer.

Re: Grub Management

Sadly, grub has always been user unfriendly, that arrival of grub2 (which is what you are using now) made it even more so.

That's why I use "legacy grub" - much less worser, so to speak. But I don't necessarily recommend that the OP use it, though it's pretty easy to make the switch.

Re: Mint 14 Cinamon won't get internet.

Not a solution, but perhaps related: I have Mint 13, Mint 14 and Arch, triple boot, and (stock, updated) Mint 14 has consistent, constant problems with any google sites - can't login to email (hangs, no error msgs), picture search rarely works, etc - but the other distros work fine, and most other w...

It's called the scrollbar; it should be on your file browser (nemo or caja...?) by default. It's definitely on thunar and pcmanfm.

Re: Trash gone when no one has gone before?

Take a look in: ~/.local/share/Trash/files If your files were on a different partition, also here: /partition_mount_point/.Trash*/files (name here is ".Trash-1000" : "1000" = user ID/group?) If no luck and you know one of the file names, look for that name, starting at "/&qu...

[SOLVED] fluxbox and xfce font settings (opera browser)

I've been having the typical problems making fonts look right in the opera browser - turns out the settings are working in Xfce4, but not in fluxbox. Starting opera with: $ opera -debugfont Shows incorrect or undefined settings running opera in fluxbox: ... opera: Xft baseline settings: opera: antia...

Re: Help Installing windows on another hard drive

If you can select the boot device w/BIOS, it's much better to keep the two OSs separate (IMHO) rather than making windows depend on grub.
- disconnect the linux disk (power off, etc)
- install windows on the other disk.
- connect the linux disk.
- reboot and select OS w/BIOS.
