Re: How to get back my "infinite pixel" scroll bars?

Excellent! I appreciate the awareness of this from the op - I now have my dock on the left side to use this little convenience. BTW if you use this particular theme check the README in the folder to fix apps that do not play well with dark themes.

Re: How to get back my "infinite pixel" scroll bars?

I tried all the themes that came bundled with Mint13, all seem to have the problem. I then went looking for GnomishDark which wasn't included, and wan't in the list available through clicking on Get New Themes". I found this http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=147290 It's not a cinn...

Confirmed - disabled my dock and with GnomishDark theme the scrollbar goes right to the edge of the screen.

Re: How to get back my "infinite pixel" scroll bars?

In Mint 12, I had an "infinite pixel" scroll bar. That is, it pushed up right against the edge of my screen with no margin. Therefore, I could push the mouse right to the edge of the screen and still be able to click on the scroll bar. In Mint 13, the scroll bar is offset from the edge of...

Re: Better virtual desktop?

Enkidu> I had a similar initial disapointment with that too but now find that using the hot corner with workspace selection works very well - in fact I now prefer it over the tiny pics that would show in a small desktop switcher. Maybe you have already tried this?

Re: what desktop effects do you use?

Personally, I dislike all those bells and whistles and fancy stuff. So, everything switched off, turned off, disabled on my pc. +1 Effects seem to make me feel tired and impatient. The best effect is to have windows appear or vanish instanly. If there was an effect to make that happen quicker I wou...

Re: [Solved] Use update manager from a user account w/adminp

Ha ha. KDE is what I have been using for the past couple years - I have played a little with the latest Mint KDE release in VirtualBox and it is impressive. When I tried Mint Cinnamon it was love at first byte and now it is the Gnome stuff I am trying to adapt to. Thanks again for the help and patie...

Re: Use update manager from a user account w/adminpswd

I can happily say this really is solved now. I'm still not quite sure what you are trying to do Then it is miraculous that your solution did exactly what I wanted. in the last line you really have to put the username of the non-admin user you wish to be able to run Update Manager. Not "user&quo...

Re: Use update manager from a user account w/adminpswd

Thank you for the reply - sorry to not copy everything previously. Does this look correct to you? Again it was saved to the temp file and it has no effect at all. # This file MUST be edited with the 'visudo' command as root. # # Please consider adding local content in /etc/sudoers.d/ instead of # di...

Re: Use update manager from a user account w/adminpswd [Solv

Looks like celebration was premature - while the solution had the desired effect of giving admin password sole control of Update Manager it also gave the user password control of Synaptic and other things it did not have as Standard user. Seems like the user/admin control follows the Windows model f...

Re: [Solved] System freezing - Mint 13 Cinnamon

Thank you! Thank you! If you manually install the "noopt" packages and later on updates for cinnamon and muffin come in via the Mint repos, these updates should automatically overwrite the existing "noopt" versions you installed earlier. Appears to be not the case here. Have to u...

Re: Virtual Machine Network Issue

I can't say this will help you but I have to make a change in VB network settings to get a connection - don't have any Windows guest though. Try Settings>Network and for Attached to: change to Bridged Adapter. Otherwise see above.

[Solved] Use update manager from a user account w/adminpswd

Sorry to bring this up again but... I was thinking the MintUpdate is a good thing but am finding it will not run from my everyday user account. In order to run it I have to switch to the account with sudo. As I see it, the only way to run from a user account is to give it sudo privileges which aint ...

Thank you for taking the time to explain this. Being newly Minted I had thought (up till now) that MintUpdate and UpdateManager was faulty having not found such an explanation as you gave. It makes sense now and I will rethink how I do updates.

Re: Level 4-5 to Level 3 Progression in Update Manager!!

The level of an update depends solely on what part of the operating system it affects. So level 4-5 updates always remain at that level. For some background on why for example your kernel is not by default updated (as it is level 4-5), and how that does/does not affect your security, see http://for...

Re: [Solved] System freezing - Mint 13 Cinnamon

I have been running all of the fixes proposed so far in virtual machines and thought I would report that the "1.4-UP3-noopt" had froze during an upgrade in Synaptic Package Manager though it had passed the LO freeze test. Pat Update; Was worried that I would have make some fixes to updates...
