I always rescale downloaded wallpapers using gthumb, preserving the aspect ratio.

I tried this (sudo dpkg --get-selections > installed-software) just to see what would happen.
It saves a file to your /home. The file had 1596 lines!

Where were you trying to install from? Try it from the "software manager" in the main menu. The reason I suggested Miro is because I read your original post and tried the link you gave. It works. Install Miro. :wink: Think I'll try that now! Thanks ... I must be missing out some simple ste...

If this leaves the system vunerable, then yes.
Otherwise, it is a feature rather than a bug.

Mintupdate doesn't ask for password
I updated some files, and then a few hours later, I noticed the padlock was open again. When I clicked on it, it opened the update window without asking for the password. Is this normal? My computer has not been rebooted for two days now, and the update window still opens without asking for the pass...
