[SOLVED] System Updater fails
I have been away from Mint 18.3 Cinnamon for a few weeks but was pleasantly surprised to see the system had 8 updates for me. (Prior to this I was having trouble getting ANY updates) However it also said some of the updates would be incomplete and do I want to continue? I chose yes....This is what I...

Re: Update manager error. Why?
My system update sometimes shows a red 'X" and says it can't refresh the list of updates... then minutes later I get a green check mark and all is OK. If it can't refresh the list how does the dreaded "X" go away without showing me any updates to install? Is the list of mirrors a dyn...

Re: Update manager error. Why?
It means exactly what it says, you don't have the correct signing keys for that obs-studio PPA. Suggest you simply remove it and then re-add it, that should pull in the correct keys. My system update sometimes shows a red 'X" and says it can't refresh the list of updates... then minutes later ...

Re: [SOLVED] Losing internet connection after using 'SUSPEND'
Yep, some house-keeping with the kernels may be in order there, those take up a lot of disk space. Personally I usually keep only 1 or 2 kernels around, more only while I'm testing out a new kernel. If you want some help with the housekeeping, if you run this it will remove all but your current ker...

Re: Losing internet connection after using 'SUSPEND'
You are quite welcome, sorry for my slight sloppiness in providing the solution. ;) Please take a moment to edit the first post's subject line to add that the topic is SOLVED. The reason you're seeing this now is because it's an issue only with recent versions of the 4.15 kernel series. I know it d...

Re: Losing internet connection after using 'SUSPEND'
Sorry to hear that, I don't know what happened with your account there. It wasn't related to what we were doing here. This will work now, I'm sure. :) gm10, You are correct sir it works fine! 8) Needless to say it makes me wonder why I need this script now and not before, or what is causing the tro...

Re: Losing internet connection after using 'SUSPEND'
If I paste it in separately, after the fact, the terminal doesn't ask me for my p/w! Fwiw I am not making a mistake when typing my p/w after the commands you sent, yet it asks me again for the p/w then accepts it. No, the mistake was entirely mine. The last line basically was redirected into the pa...

Re: Losing internet connection after using 'SUSPEND'
The part you quoted is missing the last line from what I gave you. Did you run that, too? I probably should have given you that as a separate command, I think it got lost when you entered your password: sudo chmod +x /lib/systemd/system-sleep/reset_network_driver gm10, Oddly enough although I am us...

Yes! Remarkably that gives me the connection again! What's going on? Well, once we know your system configuration we can give proper advice, that's why it's important to always provide it. ;) Next run this (copy & paste it as a whole please), that should fix your situation permanently: sudo tee...

You may want to turn OFF Power Management for your wifi adapter. No mention of any adapter maybe as you expected? I didn't know there was a wi-fi adapter! fred@Area52 ~ $ iwconfig enp3s0 no wireless extensions. enp4s0 no wireless extensions. lo no wireless extensions. fred@Area52 ~ $ Thanks, "...

[SOLVED] Losing internet connection after using 'SUSPEND'
For some reason I lose my connection to the web when I wake the machine from SUSPEND. All I need do is invoke that mode for a few secs and my connection is gone when I wake it up. I thought maybe it was a kernel issue so I chose 2 older ones and the result was the same, connection still lost. Of cou...

Re: [SOLVED] Flash Video Downloader converter update install trouble
HI ES44AC8102, Did you restart or at least logout and back in after re-installing FVD? I have no idea how to fix what is currently going on with your system beyond what we have already discussed. You might re-install the whole system and run into the same issues with FVD, it may work the way it use...

Re: [SOLVED] Flash Video Downloader converter update install trouble
Hello phd21, Normally I do watch or inspect the list to see what's being installed or taken out. Mostly because I am curious and would like to know so if something gets hosed I know what did it! That's one of the reasons I like Linux, you can see what's going on 'under the hood' so to speak. W...

Re: Flash Video Downloader converter update install trouble
HI phd21,
The file was in the correct default folder, so no changes needed there.
Double clicking the file made it open and install 68 dependencies (whew) But now its working fine!
I will have to look into the other two programs you mentioned.
Thanks very much,
"ES"

Flash Video Downloader HD converter update install trouble
Hello, I have installed Flash Video Downloader in FireFox as an add-on. It works but it tells me it needs a separate converter to be added to it so it will work properly. http://fvdmedia.com/installation-guide-linux-unix/?vers=1.0.8 I got the file and it's in my home/fred /Downloads folder, but I ca...

Loss of sound when using 'Standby'
I am noticing a loss of audio when I wake 18.3 up from the standby mode. Oddly enough if I click on a random mp3 file the sound returns and works until the next use of standby. If I use the code inxi -F This is the result with any info on the audio: System: Host: Area52 Kernel: 4.13.0-36-generic x86...
