Re: Is there an analogue clock that is accessible via the tray?
Possibly a silly question but what do you mean by accessible via the tray :?: I mean the collection of icons in the bottom right of the screen. If I remember correctly in Windows it's called the system tray. I was looking for a clock that appears when you click on an icon in the tray. In that case ...

Re: clipboard pkg for linux
Have a question. I am using a windows program under wine that will copy things to the "clipboard" but I am not sure how to retrieve it. Is there a pkg for wine or linux mint that will retrieve it? I doubt it. Nevertheless the helpfile or documentation should tell you how to use the progra...

If you simply mean that the clock shows an analog icon that actually shows the time, I doubt there is one as it wouldn't be practical in the tray.

Re: A Week with Windows 10...
As an aside, one thing I've found "in real life" is I no longer have patience for lack of comprehension (particularly, lack of effort at comprehension, since it is an active , not a passive , act), competence, or curiosity. I'm sure I'm on my way towards a situation one day where I piss o...

Re: Star Trek: Picard... who here is planning on watching it?
I'm very fond of Babylon 5 and most of the rest of your post I agree with too. Being British and knocking on a bit I actually remember the beginning of good old Doctor Who . I even remember Doomwatch which few do. :) I didn't know that you'd posted about Star Trek Continues but mentioning it again c...

Re: Star Trek: Picard... who here is planning on watching it?
It's a little OT but I wonder if any of you know about Star Trek Continues :?: It's actually a fan production by Farragut Films and follows on from the original series. It features several of Star Trek 's original actors but only one, Michael Forest ( Apollo ), reprises his original rôle as the othe...

I love this forum, even at 78 y/o I am still learning things that I never heard of in school. had to do a search for that word, found it 'funny' :) I'm over 10 years younger but I've been studying my language peripatetically for most of my life and I'd never heard of it either. what a hoot! h...

Re: How to install software on Linux Mint
To start with your desktop should have Software Manager on it. I've only ever seen it on the menu, never on the desktop. But I'm not even sure the poster is seeing a menu at all. I think you're probably right. As I remember it now the splash screen that came up first either suggested Software Manag...

Re: Medieval Latin.
This is a blind post (in part due to my Latin being non-existent!). But i saw the mention of medieval roads and a 'super-highway' (in Switzerland/Europe) and it got me thinking on an interesting book i read recently called: "The Ancient Paths" by Graham Robb (Picador published it). Which ...

Re: Letters coming off keyboard caps
I have several keyboards I can switch around and each one has its own drawbacks. The one I was using is very hard on my fingers. It seems the end of travel hits hard and my fingers end up hurting. So I have changed to another one which seems like it has softer end of travel and hopefully will not b...

Hi Ranten,
You're quite welcome.
I find this a useful, helpful and friendly forum so I hope you'll continue to look at it. I've also been using BOINC for quite a while but when I switched to Linux I initially forgot to download it.

Hi Ranten, I can't help you with your BOINC problem but you could try https://foldingathome.org/news/ and https://foldingathome.org/covid19/ who work just like BOINC but with their own similar application and who are also doing CoVid19 research. The page to download the app from is https://foldingat...

Re: [SOLVED] unknown folders appearing in home - delete?
I have seen the .gvfs and .dbus show up in your home directory after the user ran the "sudo startx" command. Usually the active user related .gvfs and .dbus directories reside in the /run/users/<user id> (commonly 1000) directory. Would you happen to know if this is something new in the 1...

I enjoy listening to a smooth jazz band with a good sax. The problem I have in the UK is that our Smooth Jazz radio station morphed quickly into Soul - and I'm a jazz freak since about 1962. Although I don't, actually can't , play if I had to name a favorite musician it'd be Johnny Hodges .

Re: Backup LinuxMint regularly
Hi all, was wondering if anyone can suggest some tools/apps/softwares or scripts I can use to backup my LinuxMint Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon (Desktop PC) on an external HDD. Is there such a way to back it up regularly the whole linuxmint drive? i.e. back it up at end of the day or every X days? Thank...
