Re: Kde: app menu bar doesn't work

OP seems to want a "Global Menu", the sort that Macs use, so that windows of different applications share the same "File, Edit, View, etc" menu at the top left of the screen. It's supposed to save screen space.

I think via upgrading it's possible to have a 32-bit Ubuntu 18.04.

I just tried firefox 60 nightly and it now has the above customise option to hide the title bar and it worked just like the old htitle addon. :)
They haven't yanked it so far. v60 releases in a couple of days.

Re: Is there a CLI window management tool for KDE

I think SDDM, LightDM, GDM, etc are "display managers" and that nullsteph wants to know about whether wmctrl will work with KWin which is KDE's window manager. Since there aren't any specific aspects, I can only say that wmctrl does work in the following (not very useful) example in Kubunt...

then why are display managers set up to switch so easily between them?
Don't most distros come with just the one display manager installed by default?

Re: gksu removed from the repo's of Ubuntu 18.04

For Kate in Kubuntu 18.04, one can open a file such as /etc/gtk-3.0/settings.ini without any extra steps, make whatever changes are needed and then, on trying to save the file, the user is prompted for the user's password.

Re: Preparing for Mint to drop the KDE distro

I like the minimal install and being able to install only the programs that fit my personal needs was one of the major factors in my decision. I get the impression that KDE Neon is meant to be a showcase for the very latest developments in Plasma, etc. So, to some extent, its users will be testers ...

Re: Getting rid of Softonic browser hijack adware (watch out.. Firefox not immune)

The advice is good, but I would have thought that running Firefox on Linux Mint would have made me not susceptible of browser injections by merely browsing a known website. Wrong thinking. Your issue has nothing to do with the OS. It has everything to do with what you allow/disallow in your browser.

Re: KDE Plasma in XFCE

Linux Mint KDE 18.3 is good until 2021. After that, KDE users can install Xfce or Mate, then install the KDE desktop over that and there will be good instructions for doing that. I'm wondering a bit about the KDE aspect being supported until 2021. I think the KDE aspect of Kubuntu 16.04 won't be su...

But that's not what I got from your first post. There, I thought you wanted just the KDE Plasma start menu in XFCE (which you prefer for its simplicity).
