Re: grub error 15
Isn't this missing a boot in the stanza? Instead of: root (hd1,0) kernel /vmlinuz--2.6.28-11-generic root=/dev/sdb2 ro quiet splash initrd /initrd.img-2.6.28-11-generic quiet It should be: root (hd1,0) kernel /boot /vmlinuz--2.6.28-11-generic root=/dev/sdb2 ro quiet splash initrd /boot /initrd.img-2...

Re: Problems with booting and shutting down
Sorry to see you still have an issue. Here's something that may help: xorg.conf for 6 monitor setup - using 3 x nvidia cards with 6 20" LCD monitors at 1680x1050 60hz - creates 3 virtual monitors using twinview then xinerama to combine them together - then used xserver-xgl ontop of it all to en...

Re: My fonts are mangled
Maybe it's a driver issue - you're using ATI graphic, and they dropped support for allot of the legacy series. The Linux ATI Catalyst™ driver will only be supported in Linux distributions prior to February 2009 for the legacy products listed above. The ATI Radeon X700 Series is one of them.... http:...

Usb KVM Switch Hot Key for Logitech Illuminated KBD
I have a Trendnet USB DVI KVM Switch. The hot key is supposed to be the scroll lock key. My Logitech KBD doesn't have a dedicated scroll lock key. I looked and edited Hal .fdi files nothing worked. Then I looked on Linux Questions, the answer was simple the hot key for this combination if the Num Lo...

Re: Problems with booting and shutting down
Oh sure. Let's try and get you booted in and running first. One way that people, me included, have forced a boot up or shut down when things get hung up, is to hold down a key on the keyboard (like the space bar or the Ctrl key). Btw, on my HP laptop I've had to do that (hold a key) even for the liv...

Re: Problems with booting and shutting down
In Linux Mint 6 my HP Pavilion laptop had a problem where it would boot from the LiveCd but not after the install. In Gloria the same symptoms you mentioned were present. The solution is to add: hpet=disable to the kernel line of of menu.lst (/boot/grub/menu.lst). gksu gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst When...

On the blog Clem said so: http://www.linuxmint.com/blog/?p=845 "The upgrade path from Mint 7 RC1 is working fine. The upgrade path from Mint 6 will need to be tested and the upgrader will eventually need to be updated. This won’t hold the release though and we’ll make an announcement for Mint 6...

Do you mean the notifications that came the Jaunty base? Not if it's these notifications that you speak of. Take a look here for an example of what I think you are asking about.

Strange. I have no performance issues with Google Earth on Linux Mint. The other issues (cursor, etc) also seem a little strange. Are you running Linux as a guest in a virtual machine hosted on MS? If so check the amount of memory allocated to the guest. Don't take the following the wrong way: My pe...

I haven't had the podcast problem you encountered with Amarok and Banshee. I've used Amarok and Rhythmbox for iPod Nano 3G and 4G, but prefer Amarok for the ipods. Have you tried gPodder for Podcast downloads and management? I haven't tried to transfer to a portable player yet with gPodder, but it w...

Re: Gloria wallpaper
I propose we keep the buttons (icons) consistent. This is important from a human centered philosophy - consistency is key. The GDM will be the first exposure people have to the icons and buttons used elsewhere (e.g. - look at the restart button on the GDM and the reload button for Firefox). If you c...
