Re: Install LM 17 without burning a disc /usb
Perhaps I wasn't clear in my initial post. I want to install Linux Mint on a second hard drive on a Windows Vista machine. If I already have a second formatted hard drive that is recognized in Windows Vista, is there a way of downloading LM to the Vista hard drive and directly installing it onto the...

Running a Windows Vista machine.
Is there a way of downloading and installing LM 17 directly to a second hard drive on the Vista machine without burning a dvd or using usb stick for the install?

Mint 15 Backup Software Tool Not Working
OK so I've discovered that I can neither backup files or software using the Mint 15 Backup tool and the webosphere says I'm not alone! If this is simply a joke program with a nice interface, are there any tutorials or tools that will accomplish the same as the tool pretends to offer? I can easily co...

Re: Set Program To Start As Root
There are reasons for using Vuescan, scanner not supported by SANE, certain enhancements etc. I use vuescan and it is a very self contained application. Works fine from the home partition, no root required. Thank you all for the feedback. Yeah my Canoscan 4400F was unsuported by Sane. When I tried ...

Re: Brother MFC 7860dw Scan Button
While I have been able to enable the Scan-to button on the MFC7860dw for scanning single pages, I haven't been successful in scanning multiple pages from the Automatic Document Feeder . Brother Linux support rep confirmed this on his machine this morning and was advancing the bug for consideration. ...

Re: Date and Time changes when switching between HDs.
Left internet time alone in Windows 7. In Linux, gedit /etc/default/rcS, I changed # assume that the BIOS clock is set to UTC time (recommended) UTC= yes to # assume that the BIOS clock is set to UTC time (recommended) UTC= no Works like a charm. Will I have to do DST updates? Small price to pay as ...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3teSzoXpNA The above linked vieo shows how to install a Linux unsupported scanner on a Virtual Box set up in Linux for Windows XP. I am trying to enable the Brother MFC 7860dw Scan Button on the machine itself. Re: Scanning with Brother MFC 7860dw
Just when I thought I was in the clear, I find out that Duplex printing option is grayed out. Drats! It works fine on Windows 7 on same machine (separate HD disk). Solved: retraced my steps and found that the driver "recommended" during install was 7840w and not the 7860dw. Changed to 7860...

Re: Scanning with Brother MFC 7860dw
Yup, it took nearly a day to come across that little line to be added. I just stumbled on it in another post. I wish I knew what I was doing but this was just dumb luck and tenacity.
I since installed the drivers (and that line) and got two other Linux Mint boxes up and running in twenty minutes.
