I want to learn how to change LM18.2 Cinnamon and Mate to as close as a fresh installation. Let's say I have been using LM18.2 for couple months, and I want it to be as good as a fresh installation.

From the post here, I notice there is this option for nouveau, but how I would set it the same way for proprietary driver.

Try with "nouveau.noaccel=1" instead of "nomodeset".

1. I tried GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="splash" and GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480
2. sudo update-grub

It still does not work.
