I often wonder if it isn't the wrong species which gets neutered.

Re: What graphics tablet do you use? Which art software?

I don't have a graphics tablet since I'm not an artist, but I will share a bit of my own workflow here as maybe it might be of benefit to someone. Typically when I'm producing something for print (either literally "printed out" or as an image to be displayed on-screen) I will use GIMP to d...

Re: Fedora 37 and Mint 21

Just kind of fooling around with Pop!_OS in a VM. Meh. I can't wait to see what they do when they replace the underlying Gnome 3.x (and good riddance).

Re: World Cup FIFA Qatar 2022

What's always gotten me is with baseball there is the World Series even though for the longest time the U.S. was the only country playing it, then the only one playing it professionally. Anyhow, Football and Australian Rules Football are, I think, the most fun to sit there and watch. Thank you for y...

Re: World Cup FIFA Qatar 2022

Them there Netherlanders usually wear Orange coloured kit. Deep breath - Oranges often get squashed to make Orange juice or processed to make Orange Squash; to me it was a play on words that I thought was amusing after the Netherlands scored three tries, no ... runs?, no .... goals - yep, goals - c...

Re: World Cup FIFA Qatar 2022

The biggest problem with the U.S. winning (I don't know if we're still in the running for that) is most of the U.S. will neither know nor care that anything happened.

In the old days, we used to get together with antikythera, who would calculate the phases of the moon and positions of planets for us. What an amazing guy.

If your passwords aren't zero knowledge stored, there's no point.

It's also critical — as i think this situation illustrates — people take responsibility for their own security.

Re: A story of Mint saving the day!

My principle concern with older hardware is that it is scrapped for no good reason. My concern with scrapped hardware is that it's not recycled. There are documentaries about how third world countries in Africa are seriously harming people and the environment because of improper handling of all thes...

Re: dvd player

There are far too many possibilities to recount them all here, but bad mastering and non-standard protection schemes can sometimes cause this. There's really not much you can do to prevent this. The Babylon 5 DVD series was notorious for bad mastering. I had to go through 2-4 sets of each season in ...

Re: Fedora 37 and Mint 21

Fedora, back when it was first an off-shoot of RedHat, was a very cool distro. Not very stable, but then few distros were. Nevertheless, it was a favorite of mine at the time. However, ever since Mark Shuttleworth poured a ton of money into a fork of Debian, and then Clem & Co. forked Ubuntu, ho...

I found this link https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Is_Fedora_For_Me Linus the guru of gurus uses Fedora. I don't like that page. No, I don't like it at all. To understand better whether Fedora is suitable for you, ask yourself the following: Do you want the latest stable software, produced and mainta...

Re: San Antonio Mint/Linux users meeting

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to go. I've never been to Texas, and I'd love to see San Antonio. It's just that it's a wee bit far from my house for a "quick trip". :(

Does the place serve good tea? I love coffee, but my body will no longer tolerate it at all.

Re: How Many Years Did You Try to Move to Linux?

I had personal data going back probably 25 years or so, maybe even a few things dating back 30 years, that I had to migrate over to Linux. How does that relate to the question? Were you trying to move to Linux all this time? I had about 20 years of personal data when I moved to Linux, but I sure as...

Any of these dogs being specifically referred to in AZgl1800's post who somehow manage to show up in the UK (or the Netherlands) should be treated with considerable respect because that's an awful lot of water they had to walk on to get there.

Just saying.

Re: Understanding "redundant" Apps

While Mint comes preinstalled with several Apps I have no use for, I've never seen any of them as "bloatware". Sure, I may not use thunderbird or hexchat, but I can see why they "belong" here. If anything it gives a new user a warm "we got you covered" welcome and show...
