Re: When support ends for 20.3
You do not have to install immediately. Will you need a disk upgrade some time in the future? If so, you could clean install on the new disk then copy from the old disk. You have from 2022 to 2025 to decide. By 2025, current disks might be replaced with quantum antimatter drives out of the USS Ente...

Re: When support ends for 20.3
Hum well the only thing that disappoints me is that I will have to go through the whole install process again even with a backup which I am not really fully aware of how that works I should I suppose look it up. Here's an example of how to upgrade from 19.3 to 20. A similar page will be offered for...

Re: When support ends for 20.3
Very nice. I hadn't seen that particular page before. I've seen variations of it with less information. There are other Ubuntu pages, but I don't recall any of them stating end-of-month for support end. Again, I do see your point. But to be safe, unless Ubuntu states something more definitive, I ca...

Re: When support ends for 20.3
Actually I think it's a misnomer for Mint to advertise April as end of support. I do recall 17 and 18 lasting until the end of April 2019 / 2021. I see what you're saying, though it's not governed by LM, and it's what Ubuntu advertises. Edit: https://ubuntu.com/about/release-cycle Very nice. I hadn...

Re: When support ends for 20.3
So just as a by the by just how often does Linux do new versions? LM 18 (Ubuntu 16.04 LTS codebase), released June 2016, support ended April 2021. LM 19 (Ubuntu 18.04 LTS codebase), released June 2018, supported until April 2023. LM 20 (Ubuntu 20.04 LTS codebase), released June 2020, supported unti...

Re: When support ends for 20.3
So just as a by the by just how often does Linux do new versions? as it seems to follow what Microsoft does with Windows except that it doesn't force hardware constraints on one's machines. Linux Mint comes out with a new version every 2 years in June typically. It follows Ubuntu's LTS release. A p...

You can upgrade to version 21, which should be available in June 2022.
It is advised to do a clean install when moving to a new version, but the choice is yours.

Re: ecryptsf folder taking up 112GB
Has it been a week or a month since you installed it.original_af_ wrote: ⤴Thu Jan 20, 2022 6:07 am This is my first daily-driving linux install and I've never encountered this folder before. What is ecryptsf and what's it for? Is it normal for it to be this size?
Maybe you have Timeshift snaphots building up.

It sounds like they did you a favor.
As long as you have the admin password, you can simply change it to something else. How could they watch you then.
Or you can take Mike's advice and do a new installation.
Or you can go back to Windows and they can watch you.

Re: Trouble after removing Cinnamon
This is what many people say about this particular issue. For those wanting to try out different desktops in Linux Mint without doing a complete install each time, Xfce should be the base system installed. Other desktops can be installed on top of Xfce and usually there isn't a problem. Results may ...

Did you do a fresh install of Mint Xfce, or remove the Cinnamon desktop and install Xfce in the same install.

Re: Cleaning memory after updates
In the past in previous versions of Linux Mint, I would get a message that I was running out of memory. As it turned out, I had old kernels and other files piling up in my memory. Is it necessary to run a command after installing periodic updates in the update manager to clean out old kernels and o...

Probably due to Xfce.
Cinnamon would provide a more user-friendly experience more than likely as long as you have 4 GB RAM.
You may want to consider switching if other issues crop up.

Hi andredahl, You are welcome... Thanks it probably will. Is it possible to play the dvd afterwards on a dvd player ? The files are in digital format without zone restrictions, so you would have to create a new DVD disc using K3b or another DVD authoring application (DeVeDe, Bombono, DVDstyler, etc...
