Would a launcher like DASH be welcomed?
Hello, I've already put up a post in the suggestions forum and have even decided to create an idea on community.linuxmint but before I do, I was wondering what others would think of introducing a launcher into Cinnamon. For those not aware, I'm referring to a "launcher" like Unity/Gnome DA...

Re: Why did you decide to install Linux Mint??
I plan to install Linux Mint because it serves the purposes of what I need in a lightweight alternative to Windows, and more importantly, LM out-of-the-box comes out really nicely with Cinnamon in that it's user-friendly. I am in no way saying LM is trying to be Windows, which it isn't. TrinityDE de...

Re: How to install gnome full screen launcher?
Incidentally, I put up a thread in the suggestions forum on this site discussing this exact thing (i.e. launcher) to be ported into Cinnamon. I agree with others saying that they might as well install Gnome or just use Ubuntu if it's a critical feature they're trying to obtain. Optionally, however, ...

Re: Cinnamon-Based Launcher Built-in or Extension
@smurphos Yep, sounds good. I was aware of this before, but I wasn't sure if it went as far as the mentioned "launchers". By chance, have you used any of the mentioned desktop launchers recently? Also, will this search provider thing ever reach an impasse with Cinnamon or can it be conside...

Cinnamon-Based Launcher Built-in or Extension
Hello, This probably won't make it on the list of popular ideas nor does it significantly impact the user-experience but I was kind of hoping to spark interest for something similar to Gnome/Unity Dash. Other examples include Albert , Synapse , and maybe Mutate . Since I'm not developer, I can't com...

There was never an icon (at least with the default themes of Cinnamon). I use on my working machine FF ESR, where I also do not see any icon in the title bar. Also not fr any other application, like the text editor. That's really odd then. It very well could be that I myself put the icon in the pix...

My Bad
@cosmo Allow me to clarify: when I open the panel menu, a Firefox icon appears but it's the same one the system has been using. Those icons and the ones that shipped with Linux Mint are still where one would expect them to be. What I can't seem to find are the icons/images that are official--if we c...

Firefox icons removed after upgrade
I'm running Linux Mint 18.2 Cinnamon (64-bit) on a guest (VM). I decided to upgrade Firefox from 58 to the latest and after it did so, I immediately noticed the icon for the launcher on my desktop changed to some default blank page icon. Thinking the name of icon had simply changed, I decided to loo...

Wow!
Cinnamon does have the ability to load search_provider plug-ins that expand the abilities of the menu search bar. It's just not well documented or easy to do as is stands. I think the dev team see it as they've coded the capability and it's up to third party applet developers to run with it, develo...

Update:
Turns out the thing I was looking for is known as a launcher. Lord knows why that term has multiple applications in the Linux community, but apparently that is what you would call Unity Dash. I went ahead and installed Albert but I've been receiving some minor glitches here and there. I feel euphori...

@phd21 You just did the work of a whole team! Christ! :) You have no idea how much this has helped! I went ahead and installed Albert. For whatever reason, the keyboard binding won't work via its settings. Nonetheless, it has good features and works wonderfully fast. Truth be told, I thought launche...

How to get Mutate working? [SOLVED]
I just found out about this "launcher" utility which would suit my needs wonderfully. I'm running LM Cinnamon 18.2 and I tried to add the ppa for Mutate but received an error of it not supporting Xenial. I'm assuming it has something to do with Ubuntu? Has anyone managed to get it working?

Yep.
Thanks folks, but I was more interested in having something built into Cinnamon directly. Something that the DE can utilize. I suppose the basic references could be Ubuntu's Dash or GNOME's equivalent—where when certain actions are taken, an overlay is displayed on the screen along with the search b...

GUI-based Search for Cinnamon Built-in
The title doesn't describe quite accurately what I would like to see, but basically, I want some kind of feature where I type into a search box of some kind (implemented via the DE) that allows me to search for files, folders, and etc. I've noticed that there's no search shortcut in the keyboard sho...

Re: Is there a DASH alternative for LM?
If you are talking about Ubuntu Unity Dash, I am pretty sure that is a part of the Unity desktop. Dash was a major reason I decided not to run Ubuntu, but I can see it might appeal to some people. I can recommend two search tools: Catfish and ANGRYsearch. ANGRYsearch is an an attempt at making Linu...

Is there a DASH alternative for LM?
Hello, I was recently playing around with the keyboard shortcuts in the relevant config menu and I noticed there wasn't anything there by default for search. I'm probably going to find something when I check in a bit, but is there no system search app (aside from find)? Something that get's run thro...

I am running Linux Mint 18.1 as a guest using VirtualBox. I ran through everything as clean as possible by removing previous (built-in) G.A. and then installing the VB G.A. I've given the machine enough memory and have enabled 3D acceleration. The issue I'm having is that the "screen" does...

Re: Window Appearence Changed After LO Update
After playing around with the theme settings, I was able to get the issue partially fixed. Since I had no point of reference, I couldn't exactly pin-point what was causing the weird appearance. I wasn't going to waste my time, so I just removed the VM and created a new one running 18.1. Thinking bac...
