Re: Mint 14 xfce the worst ever release

Well, I wasn't interested in LMDE as suggested. This is the 3rd computer I've installed xfce on. I like it. And, sorry, but xfce 4.8, installed through synaptic over ubuntu 12.04 based mint, runs rings around the mint xfce edition. There is just no doubt in my mind there. To the last poster ... you ...

Re: Mint 14 xfce the worst ever release

Well, I don't have experience with 14 Xfce ... with the hardware I installed mint on I need the lts version ... but I wasn't impressed with mint 13 Xfce. At all . It's flaky and very, very slow for xfce. It doesn't even really look like xfce, which I have running on 2 other laptops. If I had known i...

Re: Mint 13, Mate, Reorder menu favorites?

Excellent ... I knew it had to be something confoundingly simple.

Thanks for the quick response.

Mint 13, Mate, Reorder menu favorites?

Installed Mint 13 on my Acer netbook with an atom 2600 and cedarview graphics ( ) because xubuntu doesn't handle installing the cedarview packages well. At all . With Mint 13 I just installed the packages through synaptic and it worked just fine. And it's holding the required kernel version, ...

Re: Backup isn't working

OK, I've had it with this flaky implementation of Xfce in general. It's not just the backup stuff. Installed the Mate version. Actually, it's much better. Doesn't use much more memory and it's faster. But backup still isn't working. I tried back in time and it seemed to work, but it hung after a whi...

Re: Backup isn't working

Yes, rsync is installed.

I'm not sure I trust this system enough at this point to run backup from terminal.

Backup isn't working

I recently installed mint 13 xfce 32 bit, and after a number of issues, it's working OK. But now that it's time to back up my system and apps, I've had 2 programs fail. Tried back in time first. I just got a slew of rsync errors. Then tried back in time (root). That seemed more promising but that fa...

Getting odd messages, mint 13 xfce

I've had a lot of grief with this install ... much more than previous ubuntu/xubuntu ones ... but it seems to be working. I'm getting weird messages on boot and logout though. When I installed it said there was no locale no locale for en_UTF8. When it boots I get: BAD LUN, followed by about a half d...

Very happy new Mint user ...

Been using ubuntu since the summer, though I switched to xubuntu. I got an Acer netbook a few days ago that, it turns out, has the notorious Cedarview/PowerVR hardware. Now, it's a netbook. I didn't get it for playing 1080p video, but if I had I would have been much more annoyed. But having to adjus...
