Re: Timeshift mount point
For may years now I have used a separate partition for timeshift. Also, again for many years and through many installations, I have set up separate partitions for both home and my username. (I also always keep a separate partition for var to ensure overfilled logs do not crash the system. Each to hi...

Hi all, I have a some nice new HDDs on which to install Mint Vera Cinnamon edition. I will partition the drives up and allocate one of the partitions for my Timeshift snapshots. For me none of this is new and holds no problems. However, I have been wondering where I should mount the Timeshift partit...

Re: No dual boot option in installer for LM 21.1 Cinnamon
Thanks for looking. I have not installed Mint, merely running it from the live USB. Also I have not done anything to Windows. Are you suggesting I run sudo update-grub. from the live DVD? From experiance the Live DVD has always, in the past, recognised other operating systems. I do not see why does ...

No dual boot option in installer for LM 21.1 Cinnamon
I have been given an old Windows laptop and want to dual boot LM21.1 alongside Windows. The laptop belonged to a deceased person so I do not have the password to boot into Windows. To my surprise there is no dual boot option in the installer. I have never come across this before so am seeking advice...

Re: Unable to boot after 21.1 Cinnamon installation
The image was downloaded and then verified as directed before burning to the USB stick using the USB image writer from the GUI menu. I have noted before the the more modern live images do not give the option of verifying the burnt image in the same way older Mint versions did. Regrettably the BIOS d...

[SOLVED} Unable to boot after 21.1 Cinnamon installation
It was about time I updated my Wife’s machine so I went for a fresh installation from LM Cinnamon 18.3 to 21.1. She has a legacy of a complected partitioning scheme as the image [img]file:/home/alan/gparted_image.png[/img]shews. In order to maintain the contents of many of the partitions as possible...

Re: Where are shares mounted in 21.1 Cinnamon
Well, you’ve done it again altair4. I can’t thank you enough. The share is mounted exactly where you said. Why I could not find it from your original post I do not know. I have looked back but have tried so many attempts I do not know where my error lays - and is bound to be my error. Anyway, this p...

Re: Where are shares mounted in 21.1 Cinnamon
Thank you for that AndyMH. I apologise as I should have elaborated and been more specific in my question. I have a network share from another Mint 21.1 machine that I mount via the network icon. It opens easily enough and I then have read and write access to all the files without any problem. Howeve...

[SOLVED] Where are shares mounted in 21.1 Cinnamon
Just a quick question. Where are shares mounted in 21.1 Cinnamon? In this post viewtopic.php?t=170956 altair4 said that they were in but that was back in 2014 and no longer seems to be the case.
Code: Select all

Re: Questions on Deleting Windows 10 Partition and Installing Linux Mint
Don’t forget that you can dual boot Windows and Mint by letting the Mint installer sort out the space it needs alongside Windows. That will happen seamlessly if you chose the “Alongside” option.

Re: DVD tray not ejecting / can't acces data
Sorry but I can’t help with your playing DVD’s problem as I have that little problem as well. However, if it of any help I use a command eject-T to open and close the DVD/CD tray. I created a shortcut for it on my desktop - I called it ‘DVD_eject - so it s easily available. Alternative clicks on thi...

Re: [SOLVED] Timeshift, LO, DVD and USB problem
Hi kato181, Sorry I have been a long time replying. It seems that my BIOS has failed rather than the rest of the board. F2 should get me into the BIOS and sometimes it does. Most of the time it doesn’t. However, even when the BIOS does appear I can do noting with it. I am unable to move up or down, ...

Re: Timeshift, LO, DVD and USB problem
When I opened it to reset the BIOS I took the opportunity to give it a good clean (can of air duster). I have worked on the insides of many machines over the years and was very pleased to see just how clean it all was. The 2 HDD fans, both case fans as well as the PSU fan were all fine as was the cp...

[SOLVED] Timeshift, LO, DVD and USB problem
Not a Mint problem but not sure who else to ask. Pointers will be appreciated. Having an increasing number of intermittent oddities. First, I noticed that, particularly in LO spreadsheets I was having to do Ctrl+S or File> save two or three times before the file would save. Next I found that audio C...

Re: Unable to check installation media
I use installation media at various physical locations where I help other linux users as well as other physical machine here. Media can suffer degradation or damage over time hence the need to check it is okay before each time I use it.
