Re: What is the minimum root size for LMDE 5?

Have you put all your filesystems (including /home) in one partition?

Re: LMDE5

Hopefully less than 2 years?
Debian doesn't follow a biennial release schedule.

Re: Help understanding my Mint 20's space usage and functionality.

The default install puts / ( your system files) of about 10-11GB and /home (which is user programs/data and can be any size) in the same partition. Run the lsblk -f command for a summary breakdown. It's actually quite a good idea to move /home to its own partition, possibly on a different disk.

Re: LMDE5

Is the LMDE upgrade tool out of Beta yet?

i.e. Is it safe to upgrade my main desktop?

Re: LM5 Temperature on an old PC

I'd check for dust on heatsinks & check that fans turn freely, especially CPU fan.
I've run the latest Mint & LMDE5 in VM's on a new PC and neither shows any high temperatures.

I have a low-end nvidia card, but a nouveau driver.

Re: LMDE5 Installation - SOLVED

Debian stable is currently Debian 11 (as used by LMDE5)
The Mint customisation is similar to Mint 20.3.
So it's very stable.

Re: LMDE5

It's looking quite good.

I would suggest that the script command is used as thousands of lines are output by mintupgrade.
script allows you to capture this in a file whilst still allowing full user interaction with the CLI.

Re: LMDE5

@xenopeek Thank you for a very full and useful description. I'll give it a try, in a VM :D There are quite a few GUI bugs plus there are so many packages updated that I can't say whether it does a perfect upgrade (or not). It's a bit weird though:- The GUI does lots of checks and finally says "...

Re: LMDE5

I led with that it's being worked on. You can help with its development by pitching in with alpha testing. I've never used GIT to develop anything, there are no install instructions, but I would be very keen to try it out on a VM (even if it has bugs in it). It has a makefile - which I don't unders...

Re: LMDE5

Came across this yesterday: https://<blocked blogspam>/lmde-linux-mint-debian-edition-5-elsie-is-now-available-for-download It isn't an official release - at least I don't think so. I installed in a VM and the minor beta bugs seem to have dissapeared, but I am still waiting for the official release ...

Re: LMDE5

What will the next LMDE5 beta be called?

BTW the current one doesn't allow leading spaces to be specified for the password during installation.
It's necessary to use sudo passwd to obtain this.

I've been running LMDE4 on 5.10 for about a year now. :x

http://linux-mint.froonix.org/dists/elsie/ appears to be getting updated nearly every day.

I'm hoping that this means the beta release won't be too far away...
