Re: How do you promote Mint?

I promote Linux Mint, and Open Source in general, by doing the following: Always carry a USB Thumbdrive on me, with Mint 11 and Mint 11 LMDE liveCD's installed. When (not if!) people complain about Windows being slow, inefficient, expensive, or getting all sorts of crap installed due to "promotions"...

Re: Linux Mint & Samsung NC10 Netbook...

Any windows sizing dificulties in your Samsung Netbook w/ Mint 11? How about the unit's Touchpad, any problems (I realize that the NC10's touchpad left very much to be desired even in Windows XP - not the greatest hardware component in the NC10)? What version of Mint 11 are you running? I'm running...

Re: Wireless network found but cannot connect

The issue was most likely that IPv6 was enabled.

Code: Select all

wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:11:6b:65:68:b1
          inet6 addr: fe80::211:6bff:fe65:68b1/64 Scope:Link
If you want to know for sure, revert back to NM and try these steps.

Regards,

Anakin

Re: A PIM that works in Mint?

In the for-last issue of Linux Format (#151) there was an article about just this topic. They tipped Mozilla thunderbird as their winner, but since that's only a mail-client, they used Mozilla Lightning as the PIM module. Was mentioned as "pretty zippy" on a Dual-core laptop, but not so much on an A...

Re: Linux Mint & Samsung NC10 Netbook...

I don't dual-boot, and run Mint11 at this moment, I can tell you it's running just fine on my NC10-KA06NL. 4-5 hours worth battery-time, no battery-issues with the kernel, almost all important FN-keys work, just not brightness-keys, enable/disable WiFi and Scroll Lock. Mind you, I've upgraded mine t...

sweet! :D

Care to upload the pattern somewhere? Or maybe even better, maybe the idea can be handed to HelloTux so Mint gets some of the revenue if they put it in production? :P

I have asked for such a thing couple of weeks ago. :)

Re: the real reason for low priority in amule

So I'm thinking that maybe amule can't make the files in that shared directory available to potential leeches because the directory, like its containing folder, is encrypted. Does that make sense? Nope, not at all :) aMule itself does nothing whatsoever with file-systems or encryptions. It just tel...

Re: More crazy stuff from Ubuntu - what will Mint do?

..had the potential to reduce security Oh really, so potential reality is now reality.. Yes, but I think it is a calculated risk. I can follow the train of thought in the article and can agree to some extend. By doing this, they reduce the amount of times you get confronted with the password-box fo...

Re: Hardware key Fn+F2 causes system crash

Hya rle, My best guess would be device power-management in the kernel. You can troubleshoot this by looking at the file /var/log/syslog. Make sure you write down the time when you press Fn+F2. Then, after the reboot, check the syslog to see what happened, and post it here (use the brackets [ code][ ...

Re: LinuxMint Number 1 on Distrowatch

And those Windows numbers, broken down, are (click on "Full list/Versions" on the "Operating Systems (Top 10)" list from the stats page): Windows XP 16.6 % Windows NT 26.9 % Windows Vista 2.6 % NT users? Maybe that include Win2000 users, even though 2000 is its own entry. I was using NT for many ye...

I assumed that you already had something going to retrieve the state of the wifi-connection, and therefore never asked. And we all know: assumption is the mother of all screw-ups... :) Anyway, now I also get why you kept referring to that one directory. You want the service NetworkManager to interac...

if you think that was sexy (pin-up), maybe someone can write you something in perl, hehehe Anyway, the script should run at any location, since I didn't incorporate relative paths. Re: help me understand tty numbers

Anakin, thanks for the great info on TMOUT. I learned a lot about variables and other features of the shell by playing around with that. One thing I noticed is that when it automatically logs me out of (for example) tty#2 while I'm doing something in the graphical one, it interrupts the screen brie...
