Re: Touchpad not working

Synaptic touchpads do work without any driver in Linux Mint 10, you're sure your hardware is OK?

Re: Can't Install 10 Screen Goes Blank

Nouveau should also support higher resolutions, if the card does support them. You don't need the proprietary driver. The Vista boot screen uses 800x600 or 1024x768 resolution, and the monitor is said to be Windows Vista capable, so it will also support 800x600 or 1024x768, modes which this graphics...

Re: Can't Install 10 Screen Goes Blank

By console, you mean mint@mint ~ $? Type startx here and press enter. If you see errors while doing this, post it here. If you get to that console, you indeed can't fix your issue by adding/removing quiet and splash. Compatibility mode only helps if your screen is fully black in other mode. Did you ...

Enabling Compiz

Hello,

I want to enable Compiz but Desktop Effects is not in the menu and not in configuration center of Linux Mint 10.
compiz-check returns all green OK's so it is possible to run Compiz on this computer with the proprietary NVidia driver installed.
Fedora runs Compiz without any problem.

I am replacing Fedora with Mint. I know how to label partitions with Grub. Thank you, problem solved.

Re: Freecom 80GB external hard drive

I've found it. sudo chmod a+w /media/cc5fffbe-4709-46bc-b21e-5246c6a7edc3 sudo chmod a+w /media/053436e7-6418-4e06-bc0b-003696435cb1 On Fedora of course su instead of sudo, but that also works fine. If a hidden (. prefix) folder is copied to the disk, it is not given permission to create another fol...

Re: Freecom 80GB external hard drive

As I said before, Mint is not yet installed. I want to backup my data before shrinking the Fedora partition. I'll boot it from USB now and check the fstab, mtab and mount there. Or should I show the Fedora ones from harddisk? Edit: the disk is split into two partitions: 123MB and 80GB, both Ext3 for...

Re: Debian Edition Install Default UID

It's not only Mandriva, also Fedora. This looks like Red Hat and derived distros use 500 and Debian and derived distros (Linux Mint, via Ubuntu...) use 1000.

Re: Freecom 80GB external hard drive

What I said in my first post is about accessing the HDD from a live CD/USB. It does not work.

From an installed distro, it also does not work. I cannot even see my files on the disk, only folders are visible.

Re: CPU fan problems

Broken capacitors can cause fluctuating voltage, I think it's safer to replace the power supply.

Yes, your motherboard is ATX (20 cables in the connector on the pic)

Unetbootin, a Linux tool for this, might also work. Not all distros work well, I don't know about Linux Mint. Only thing I know is that Fedora does not work.

Re: how do I install a "simple" program?

Most software has a README or INSTALL text file (you might need to specify a program (Gedit for example) to open it), with instructions. When it's a tar file, usually you'll have to do some command-line work. The usual commands are: cd to directory (in Mint right-click the Nautilus file explorer win...

[solved] Freecom 80GB external hard drive

I'm having an (Ext3 formatted) Freecom 80GB external hard drive. In Linux Mint 10 (but also Fedora 14), I do only have read-only access to the disk. In Mint I can, as root, create folders but nothing more. In Fedora I can't even do that. It's some old drive (it still needs both USB and power cord) t...

Re: Donating to Linux

You could also donate to the kernel.

You have to do seperate donations for everything you're using when it's developed by other people. Or choose some software which needs improvement. For example, webcam support in aMSN.

Look at www.pendrivelinux.com
If you're having Windows still installed on some computer, it's very easy to put Mint Debian on USB with their program.

Re: Rabobank Internetbankieren / Linux Mint

Het is een website, en die doen het (vrijwel) altijd prima. Rabo Internetbankieren heeft geen moeite met Fedora Linux, Mint heb ik het nog niet op geprobeerd maar dat werkt ook volgens Bolle1961.
