My best advice is to get rid of all software that uses pdf only (evince? others?) and replace with Qoppa pdf reader. It works faultlessly.
master pdf editor will let me open and edit this form-filled PDF?

PDF doesn't show proper contents. Says need to upgrade to latest version of Adobe Reader. C'mon, really? How to bypass?

I received an email from a trusted contact with a PDF attached. When Xreader (2.8.3) opens it, I get a one-page that says: Please wait... If this message is not eventually replaced by the proper contents of the document, your PDF viewer may not be able to display this type of document. You can upgra...

Re: First time I connected external monitor, I got the proper max res. But not anymore.

Oh, if it's something that can be done by USB, how come what I did with a USB stick several months ago did not seem to upgrade the version? What should I do differently with the USB?

Thank you, SMG.
The person flashed an ISO. Does that mean a disc drive is required? I ask because I removed the optical drive that came with the laptop to reduce weight.

Re: First time I connected external monitor, I got the proper max res. But not anymore.

Thanks for letting me know there's a bios/uefi update. How were you able to tell that that I'm on an older BIOS and that there's a new version available? I thought I updated my thinkpad's bios about 8 months ago and I would think i'm still on the latest version? The version showing in your inxi is ...

Re: First time I connected external monitor, I got the proper max res. But not anymore.

Is there a hot-key sequence on your laptop to enable an external monitor (as mentioned as a possibility by rene)? Maybe that is a factor? As an FYI: If you have a way of updating the BIOS/UEFI, there is a newer one available. I do not know if that might make a difference as there have been some mic...

Re: First time I connected external monitor, I got the proper max res. But not anymore.

Just a quick interjection: given that it worked yesterday, can you just plug and replug the VGA cable, possibly at both ends, and reboot the system? Yesterday, the day of success, the VGA cable was connected to the monitor the entire time but, IIRC, was connected to my laptop only after I booted/lo...

First time I connected external monitor, I got the proper max res. But not anymore.

Last night, which is the first time I plugged in a Dell monitor (ST2320L) to my laptop (via VGA cable), I was able to get the monitor's max resolution of 1920x1080. Linux Mint 20's Display settings even detected the brand (Dell). But today, when I connect the laptop to the monitor, I'm only getting ...

Re: after changing rendering setting in Qredshift, screen is now blank

I was able to fix this by doing the following: Restart computer. Press Esc to get to the Grub menu Press the Down key to choose the Recovery boot. Enter ecrypt password. In blue-red pixelated text screen, press Enter (Resume boot as normal). This comes with a warning that graphics drivers may not be...

When I hit Ctrl-Alt-Backspace, I do see the log in screen. after I log in, I do hear the : log-in sound but see a black screen. How can I fix thi...

Can I create a landing page for my router?

How can I create a landing page for my router? The box is a Hitron CGNM-2250. https://us.hitrontech.com/support-only/cgnm-2250-cable-modem-router/ I understand that if an SSID is secured (such as by WPS or WPA) there isn't gonna be a landing page until you enter the password. So I guess, for my purp...

Re: Wish Linux Mint automatically sets different mic levels depending on whether headset is plugged in or not

Dear Kadaitcha Man, Are you suggesting that I need pavucontrol installed to do as I wish? Are you suggesting that: 1) Mint can and does save and set different "speaker" levels for external speaker vs plugged-in earphone without pavucontrol, and 2) Mint can and does save and set different m...

Wish Linux Mint automatically sets different mic levels depending on whether headset is plugged in or not

When I plug my earphones into my laptop, the volume, happily, goes from mute to something like 50%. In other words, I’m glad that Linux Mint Cinnamon saves and automatically sets different volume levels for built-in speakers and plugged-in earpieces. I wish Linux Mint would save and automatically se...

How can I (temporarily/for few days) turn off Luks password/encryption on portable hard drive?

I bought a portable 2TB hard drive yesterday. With gnome-disks-utliity (Disks in the Mint menu), I turned it into one partition with Luks and password-encrypted it. I did that because my laptop is Linux and I wasn't planning on using Windows or Mac. But I was wondering... let's say that I need to co...

Re: Went with LUKS.

I think it's good to keep in mind that full encryption/decryption is going to add a lot of reads/writes to the external media. Should we worry about wearing the external drive out sooner than it otherwise would? Thanks for this. It's not something I factored in. Are you comparing "full encrypt...

Went with LUKS.

Because of the time constraint (my cloud storage will expire on Monday Feb 15), I need to act fast. I learned that my Mint SSD/OS is encrypted with LUKS (based on Disks [gnome-disks-utility]). So I got Disks to do the same thing with my 2TB portable HDD. I'm a noob with these sort of things. This si...
