I don't think you'll need to install anything if you use intel.. It should be works just fine by default. CMIIW, Intel driver is included on the kernel, so if you want to see if there any driver update, just upgrade your kernel.

Have you try the driver from Epson Download Center ? I have T13 and it perform better with the new driver.

for debugging purpose, you can always try to open synaptic or mintinstall using terminal, so you will see the error. IMO, it is better reinstall using mint 13 MATE, you'll still get updates till 2017 (you won't get any more upgrade on katya) or wait for the new LMDE MATE ISO, there's no need to rein...
