Re: Steelseries usb sound card 7.1 doesn't work properly

That sound card is a 'virtual' 7.1 surround card, meaning it takes a stereo signal and varies the sound to make it appear as if it's 7.1 surround, which it isn't. If the card is producing sound then it's working.

Re: Turn off automatic login in 18.2?

You must have performed an upgrade. See the response by xenopeek, here: viewtopic.php?f=90&t=250723 There is no auto-login option in 18.2 Cinnamon as yet due to a switch from MDM to LightDM. The link describes a workaround for turning on auto-login. Presumably you reverse the procedure to turn i...

Re: LMDE 2 Cinammon Dropbox

Will 32 bit eventually fade out as a system? Ubuntu have already hinted they're dropping 32-bit, Arch has already dropped it, developers are dropping it, Google included. New distros don't even bother with it. Given that 32-bit CPUs haven't been around for close to the last decade, it's inevitable ...

Just today added another 2 x 4TB HDDs to my backup server (HW RAID10). That makes (6 * 4TB) / 2 = 12TB + 2 hot spares  . I have to call in the removalists just to move it from one wall of my home office to another.

I think that could be one way to do it... but isn't /etc/profile is run only when you open a terminal?
Whenever a shell is opened, and what do you think your DE runs in?

You could also create a .sh file in /etc/profile.d/ and make it executable.

You should use ~/.profile for customizations since /etc/profile can be overwritten by upgrades. Also, the issue with that is that bash will only start when you open a terminal. So until you open the terminal, it won't be executed. Bzzzt! sudo nano -w /etc/profile echo "boo far" > /home/ca...
