Re: Would you like LMDE to be based on Stable, not on Testin

I think you would be able to upgrade LMDE in place also. If I'm not mistaken, that was the question asked many posts back, lol. :? But when all the smoke clears, if LMDE gets based on stable, it will be what most people understand to be a 'rolling release', meaning essentially and ideally never hav...

Re: Would you like LMDE to be based on Stable, not on Testin

Nope. You've completely misunderstood how Debian works. Overgeneralizing, but Debian stable only gets fixes added to its software repository--no new major new versions of software, only minor versions to fix security issues for example. To illustrate, here's the guide to upgrade from Debian 6 to De...

Re: Would you like LMDE to be based on Stable, not on Testin

sure, we accepted that argument since they promised that LMDE will get a better management after they moved into ubuntu LTS version. I don't remember such a statement. Can you post a link to that promise? I'd like to see that link too. This is just a stab in the dark but since Mint moved to less of...

Re: Would you like LMDE to be based on Stable, not on Testin

Just the opposite, it would be even more so a rolling. 100% completely rollling. Not quite as cutting edge but that would be the trade off, newish and flakey or somewhat stale but totally dependable . So Stable LMDE would be rolling? Meaning you'd never have to install again? How would that work? I...

Umm, not exactly, it's a well known fact Canonical takes packages from Debian unstable and tweaks them so they'll work in the *buntus. Just sayin'. :?

This link is a bit old but it proves my point.

Re: Would you like LMDE to be based on Stable, not on Testin

I voted no, but that's only because I'm under the impression that a switch to stable Debian would be a departure from the rolling release model. On the computer where I have LMDE installed, I specifically want a rolling distribution. I have no specific objection to LMDE heading in that direction, t...

Re: Would you like LMDE to be based on Stable, not on Testin

I have a Wheezy installation, I have STABLE bpo and STABLE dmo enabled but NOT pinned, I'm having ZERO problems, great multimedia functionality and higher version dependencies available if needed . I'm still running the stock kernel with the typical standard Wheezy updates. This would make a good 't...

Re: System sounds in Mint 17 Xfce

I'm not sure what you really want Ok, I'll try to be a little more specific, do the system sounds work in Mint 17 Xfce out-of-the-box, regardless if there is a theme installed or not? Check out the Debian forum link in my OP of what I just went through, I'd rather keep my Debian install than go thr...

System sounds in Mint 17 Xfce

I just got a full set of system sounds working in Debian stable Xfce (forum page here), I was wondering if there is working system sounds in Mint 17 Xfce? :?: :!:

I'm asking because I'm out of bandwidth this month and have to wait until the 1st of next month to download it.

Re: Option 'printer-resolution' has value '(unknown IPP tag)

This post is somewhat verbose for the benefit of the not so experienced  ... I can confirm I had the same issue running Debian Wheezy Xfce 7.5 (fresh install), I have official Wheezy backports and Wheezy dmo enabled already anyway (some apps need newer versions of dependencies), as suggested i...

 @ the schooled whiners. I learned by trial and error (lots of them, lol) and READING, do lots of reading before you mess up your stuff. :!: Or you could go back to Windohs and have spyware and license changes snuck in with your 'updates', that's why I love Linux, choice and it works, and oh, i...

Re: Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" Cinnamon is out!

Not to argue with distrowatch (or you for that matter). Looking over the specific distro's listed as including Wine, I notice one package missing from their package list (also supplied). Not one of them include Wine in the package listing. So unless one of the users of solydxk specifically says its...

Re: Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" Cinnamon is out!

Uhmmm No. I don't know of any Linux Distro that bundles Wine with the Distro. Its a fairly simple thing to just install wine from the repo's anyway. Wine 1.6.2 search results at Distrowatch.com... http://distrowatch.com/search.php?pkg=wine&pkgver=1.6.2#pkgsearch 1.6.2 is the latest stable version a...

Re: Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" Cinnamon is out!

Regarding mintstick, I have found that using the formatting feature and formatting the USB stick first, then using mintstick to burn the .iso to the stick works 100% of the time for me. I'm not sure if it is a feature or a bug, but I'm satisfied with how it is working. I found the same thing with U...

Re: Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" Cinnamon is out!

Seeing as how this is an LTE release, couldn't I just install the 64 bit version and slap KDE on top of it? I prefer KDE and have no problems installing it myself and was about to download LM16 and install that but noticed that LM17 is out. Thanks for the hard work. Did you mean 'LTS'? Anyway, what...

Re: Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" Cinnamon is out!

Looks and works fantastic! Just two tiny complaints (uh oh, lol), #1; a user has to enable hot corners to add workspaces when you using the pager (Workspace switcher) in the panel (for us old fart traditional types, lol) as opposed to adding workspaces directly from System Settings/Workspaces, #2; t...

Re: What made you switch to Linux Mint?

In mid-2010 I decided to try Linux after several viruses basically destroyed my Win XP machine. I got so fed up with M$ products and their restrictions, adware, spyware, etc., not to mention the monetary costs, that I jumped right into the Linux ocean. Mint was my first full-time distro, and I've h...

Re: Why are my applications not the latest possible version?

So, my first post here is in this thread and about Firefox. I'm writing from within Linux Mint 13 Maya 64-bit on Firefox 27 and have a green checkmark in my taskbar telling me everything is up to date. My Ubuntu Studio 12.04 and Windows 7 64-bit boxes are both running smoothly on Firefox 29. Curiou...

Re: Linux is Not Windows

though with Ubuntu I don't even know how long it will last due to the OS going over to the Mir-Display server this in my view is the wrong choice and should have an option of either Xorg or Mir in the installer. Good point, apparently they like being the 'wildcard' in the FOSS world, just more weir...

Re: What made you switch to Linux Mint?

To me, Mint 13 XFCE is a perfect distro. I have to agree, as a long-time KDE user, I got sick of it, I won't even touch Gnome 3.x or Unity, I do like Cinnamon but I find it's still a bit young and buggy, no offence Clem, Mate is just Gnome 2.x on life-support, lol, so off to Xfce I went, was using ...
